‘Monsters University’ Inspires Fashion Created by Student Designers

Disney Consumer Products has partnered with the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles to create a sportswear collection based on characters from Disney/Pixar's Monsters University.

The college offers students more than a dozen programs including Fashion Design, Toy Design, and Fine Arts. The partnership with Disney Consumer Products was a chance for students to have one-of-a-kind creative experience bringing designs based on Mike, Sulley, and Art to life.

Otis students had an opportunity to visit The Walt Disney Studios where they met with Disney designers and artists to learn about each character from Monsters University. The students' assignment was to design street wear with sustainability for use in athletics and for everyday wear. The designs also had to reflect the character without using an image of the character.

The students used recycled materials including household mops, sponges, and repurposed fabrics in their designs to address the sustainability requirement. The designs were showcased at a runway show at the Otis Annual Scholarship Benefit and Fashion Show in Beverly Hills.

The collection was displayed during the premiere of Monsters University at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, and will remain on display during the film's theater run through August 2.
