The Walt Disney Company announced late last week that Bob Weis would be taking over as president of Walt Disney Imagineering, replacing Bruce Vaughn. Weis was instrumental in the makeover of Disney California Adventure and was in charge of the Shanghai Disney project.

The announcement was made in a memo from Bob Chapek, chairman of the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

Weis is not only replacing Bruce Vaughn who is leaving Disney in a few months after helping with the transition, but he's also replacing Craig Russell who is staying with Imagineering but in a different role that will focus on "project execution." Disney has not yet named a new leader for Shanghai Disney Resort.

Walt Disney Imagineering plays an integral role in the two new Star Wars-themed lands at Disney's Hollywood Studios and Disneyland in addition to Toy Story Land at the Studios, and the already-under-construction Avatar-themed land at Disney's Animal Kingdom.

During his career at Disney, Weis also oversaw the development of Disney's Hollywood Studios' Tower of Terror and Tokyo Disney Sea at the Tokyo Disneyland Resort.
