Coconut-Macadamia Nut Muffins at Kona Island

Any Disney traveler that's shuffled in and out of Disney's Polynesian Village Resort via monorail has passed Kona Island. This little arm is an extension of the resort's Kona Cafe' that reaches out into the upper lobby and offers a quick place to grab a quick nosh and something to drink. While the even hours here are dedicated to sushi service, mornings are all about coffee and pastries.

When it comes to grabbing a light and quick breakfast on your way to the monorail, Kona Island is the perfect spot for Polynesian Village Resort guests. Breakfast time here is home to some of the best coffee in Walt Disney World with Kona blends straight from Hawaii. Coffee, tea, fruit, and assorted pastries offer guests something to grab and nosh while waiting for their ride to the Magic Kingdom.

I couldn't resist the adorable Coconut-Macadamia Nut Muffin shaped like Mickey Mouse. The nut dense cake is full of sweet coconut and roasted macadamia pieces, then topped with a brown sugar crumble. While the predominant flavor in many of Disney's pastries lately has simply been sugar, this comes across as a lighter option that doesn't overwhelm with its sweetness.

During my trip I found these muffins available at Kona Island both in the morning and the evening. So feel free to grab a few to take back to your room for an early morning nibble. I did this on my first night at Disney's Polynesian and was treated to a Mickey muffin with my coffee in-room the next morning. As you can see from the image below this muffin is high on the nutty crumble, but when you get to the dense cake it's soft and delicious. It can be a bit hard to remove the muffin from the wrapping in one shot, I suggest using a fork and digging in.

I was also thrilled to find this Mickey muffin on the side of my plate the next day when I ate at Kona Cafe' too!

If you're wondering what some of the other delicious macadamia nut treats spotted at this local may be, head on over to our friends at the Disney Food Blog and read Spotted: Macadamia Pastries at Polynesian Village Resort's Kona Island.

Happy snacking!

I love macadamia nuts but not a big coconut fan (unless it's in the form of rum). I'll have to check out the other treats.
