Disney’s Animal Kingdom Welcomes Two Baby Gorillas

For the second time in a month, a baby gorilla was born at Disney's Animal Kingdom.

The first gorilla was born August 7 to mom Azizi and dad Gino, and the second gorilla was born September 3 to Kashata and Gino. Both gorillas are male.

The lowland gorilla family lives on the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail and also includes an adult female named Benga, and a four-year-old female named Lilly who was born to Kashata.

"It's exciting to see a strong, nurturing family of this endangered species flourishing at Disney's Animal Kingdom," said Jay Therien, Animal Operations Manager for Disney's Animal Programs. "As our bouncing baby boy bonds with Kashata, we're thrilled with his health and development."

Disney's Animal Kingdom participates in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan. The plan manages species diversity with records of individual animals. The infant gorillas are the fourth and fifth born at the Animal Kingdom.

The first gorilla born at the park arrived in 1997 before the park opened, with a second arriving in 1999, and the third being born in 2010.

This is great news! We love spending time observing these amazing creatures. It's great that Disney takes such fantastic care of them.
