Each day during the afternoon parade the 26 foot tall Maleficent Dragon made her way through the Magic Kingdom locked in battle with Sleeping Beauty's Prince Philip. The towering steampunk inspired mechanical dragon was designed by the Tony Award-winning Michael Curry, and had been a fan favorite since her debut in 2014. As well as being seen in the afternoon parade, Maleficent was often featured as a photo op for many of the runDisney Half Marathons.

Disney representatives have confirmed the fire, and reported that no guests or cast members were injured during the incident. You can catch video of the fire from the Miami station WPLG below.

As Disney fan social media feeds flooded with images from the parade fire disaster, most people commented that they hoped they felt the dragon has always been a highlight of the parade. General hope is being expresses by Disney fans that the float will be repaired, and be seen once again. Time will only tell.

How do you feel about the loss of Maleficent from the Festival of Fantasy Parade? Was it one of your favorites?

They shut off the flames on the dragon in Disneyland Paris. When I saw the parade last week, it only shot out smoke.

Awww... I hope that's temporary. Maybe just while they investigate what happened in Florida. Somehow I feel that might be wishful thinking.
