The Grand Floridian Bird Cage

Disney World's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa is known for its luxurious atmosphere, incredible service, proximity to the Magic Kingdom (it's right next door!); but it's also known for its theme.

The resort is decked out in crystal chandeliers, delicate shades of cream and mauve, grand staircases, and birdcages. Yep. Birdcages.

The theme of the resort whisks guests back to the turn of the century, when motor cars were first coming into fashion, gentlemen and ladies still very much dressed for dinner, and decor was not only taken seriously, but was trending toward representations of nature and animal life. Thus, you'll find birdcage representations at in the Grand Floridian's lobby, and one of them is...well...massive.

The huge replica looks more like it was built to cage humans than birds, but despite its size, it still seems like a delicate piece of art. A focal point of the lobby, the bird cage is one of those rare finds that will keep you staring for a while!

Old enough to remember the specially colored birds in those cages when the hotel first opened.

Some of the bird cages they have in that hotel are exquisite! They definitely helped bring back the trend of bird cages as decor instead of just for birds. I might want to stick my kids in the giant one for a little bit to get some peace and quiet. Just kidding!
