Hollywood Brown Derby Grapefruit Cake Cocktail

Due to its location close to the movie studios, the Hollywood Brown Derby became the place to see and be seen throughout Hollywood's Golden Age. For Disney diners, the Brown Derby offers a signature dining experience in the heart of the Hollywood Studios Theme Park. Since it's Friday - let's stop in for a drink!

My son and I stopped by the Hollywood Brown Derby last month and spent a couple of hours relaxing in the shade of the restaurant's outdoor lounge. We found this little patio running across the front of the restaurant was a great place to people watch while taking a break from the heat. It was an unexpected stop for us, but turned out to be a highlight of our vacation.

One of the dishes that the Brown Derby is known for is their delicious Grapefruit Cake. The Disney beverage masters have whipped up a yummy drink to pay homage to this famous dessert. The concoction delights with Deep Eddy Ruby Red Grapefruit Vodka, Stoli Vanil Vodka, and a splash of cream. The classic martini glass is rimmed with vanilla wafer, and garnished with a piece of dehydrated Grapefruit.

I'm usually a fruity drink girl as far as cocktails go, but a good friend suggested this because I love ruby red grapefruit. It was picture perfect when delivered to the table, and I was excited to give the signature cocktail a try. The first sip woke me up - you can tell that this drink is mostly vodka, but there was something intriguing to it. The cocktail had a subtle grapefruit flavor, the vodka was mellowed by the cream, and the vanilla wafer rim added just a touch of sweetness. I loved it.

This cocktail was out of the box for me, but I'm thrilled that I gave it a try. The Grapefruit Cake Martini is one of those signature Disney drinks that you just may keep craving even after you get back home. It's a slow sipper, but sitting on the lovely Brown Derby patio watching people go by (and more than a few Stormtroopers) there was no reason to hurry.
