Toy Story and Star Wars aren't the only franchises at in Disney's Hollywood Studios that are getting a lot of love right now. This weekend at the D23 Expo it was announces that Mickey Mouse, and his best girl Minnie are getting a brand new attraction all their own. Get ready for a new dimensional experience on Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway.
The new ride has been in development since early 2016, and will take the place of The Great Movie Ride. That's a move that fans will either love or hate, but their way you cut this will be the very first Disney ride dedicated to the main mouse, and its about time.
Inspired by the modern Mickey Shorts that play on the Disney Channel the people at Disney Television Animation have partnered up to help Imagineering bring the new attraction to life. On Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway will slip guests into 2 1/2 D - where the world of animation with Mickey, Minnie, and the all the gang exists without the help of special glasses. The experience explores new space in the cartoon version of Mickey's world. Imagineer Kevin Rafferty said that the teams are inventing completely new technologies which turn the flat world of a colorful cartoon short into a "dimensional display of amazingness." Game changing is the phrase that was used to describe this zany out-of-control adventure.
UPDATE: During the 2018 D23 Expo Japan, Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, announced that Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway will be opening in 2019.
