Across the path from the Dawa Bar in the Harambe Village section of Disney's Animal Kingdom you'll find one of those lovely spots that have a way of bring strangers together for a fantastic Disney moment. Sitting out along the path for anyone to stop and explore are the Muziki Drums. This little stand, sometimes occupied by talented cast members creating stunning African rhythms, calls out to old and young alike to play a djembe.
Traditional djembe hang on display under the sign on the music stand. They are hand crafted from a solid piece of wood, and resonating inner carvings, which help to produce a wide range of tones. Their goblet shape of this African hand drum is crowned with a goat skin playing surface that is held down with a series of ropes. These classic drums have their origins in West Africa, and called people of the village together.
Here in Disney's Harmbe Village they still have the effect of calling people together, and joining in the beating heart of this park, it's people. Okay, in all honesty the drums for people to play are modern hand drums, but they're still a lot of fun! During my girls weekend trip to Walt Disney World, one of our younger ladies started playing a rhythm. She started drumming and before you knew it, others had joined in. The rhythm and laughter brought strangers together in this cacophony of friendship.
Have you stopped by the Muziki Drums and giving them a try? Leave me a comment and let me know!

It was Katie who started drumming, wasn't it? I'll bet that she had a lot of fun, too. I've seen the effect that a drumming circle can have on a crowd, and it invariably draws people together, usually smiling and laughing along with the beat.
I would have liked to have been there to take part.

We visited Animal Kingdom in July. My son loved the types of drums you hold in your hand. I was wanting to get him one for Christmas. Do you sell them?
Thanks,
Allison

HI Allison! We are a fan run website, not Walt Disney World.
However - you can contact Merchandise Guest Services toll free at (877) 560-6477 or for international callers at +1 (407) 934-6111 or emai them at [email protected] and they should be able to help you.
I believe the name of the drum you are looking for is a "djembe", and they can be found in Animal Kingdom at the Mombasa Marketplace in Harambe Village.
