The New Gasparilla Island Grill Still Stuns With Sweet Cupcakes

The Gasparilla Island Grill at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa has reopened after after a bit of refurbishment, and guests can delight in a brand new menu with artisanal ingredients and elevated flavors. A whole team of culinary stars collaborated on the relaunch, including James Beard nominee and Grand Floridian Executive Chef, Scott Hunnel, Grand Floridian Executive Pastry Chef, Erich Herbitschek and Chef Noah Estabrook. Today will be taking a look at one of the fantastic Gasparilla Island Grill desserts, the German Chocolate Cupcake.

The grill's new dessert station is certainly a treat, it features specialty coffees and the enticing baked goods that we've come to know and love at this sunny spot. All the sweet treats are made in the Grand Floridian Bakery and feature appealing design as well as traditional flavors. Look for the new Coconut Pot de Creme, Almond Fruit Tart, Chocolate Mousse Pie, Mickey Brownie, and Minnie Mouse Cupcake, as well as other assorted cookies and sweet treats.

On one of our recent visits we dug into the gorgeous German Chocolate Cupcake. This beauty stands in the case like a boldly piped monument to chocolate. The glossy buttercream cradles a luscious traditional filling that is a milky caramel packed with coconut and pecans. Fans of that traditional frosting can rejoice too, because the center of the epic mini-cake is filled with the tasty signature sweet.

OK - I confess. I actually ate this for breakfast, and it was so worth it. I can attest that this is a sinful snack that holds up well in the hotel fridge so that you can enjoy it at your leisure.

Fun fact - German Chocolate cake is an American treat, named for Samuel German, who created the formulation of dark baking chocolate used in the cake recipe.

Gasparilla Island Grill has long been a fun place to drop in for some of Disney's most creative cupcakes, and the selection of delightful pastries has only gotten better with the overhaul.
