Pirates of the Caribbean Closing for Refurbishment on May 11

If you're headed to the Magic Kingdom this summer there is one less FastPass+ you'll need. Pirates of the Caribbean is closing down May 11 for a several-months-long refurbishment and won't be open again until sometime in September.

The closure is for what Disney is calling "routine refurbishment" and no specifics regarding the refurbishment have been announced.

There have been a couple accidents in the last year where guests were injured on the ride. Last year a guest lost his fingertips on the ride and a young boy suffered a hand injury in a separate accident.

There have also been reports lately of issues with the ride's animatronic characters and with boats taking on water during the ride.

Despite the accidents last year, Disney says the refurbishment is not safety related.

Some of the rumored updates include changes to the ride's track and possibly updating scenes on the ride, but there is no official word on whether or not any new characters will be added to the attraction.

What do you think of the extended refurbishment for Pirates of the Caribbean? Let us know in the comments.
