Shopping at the House of Good Fortune in Epcot’s China Pavilion

Epcot's China Pavilion is one of the more beautiful locations around World Showcase, and it's also a hidden gem when it comes to great shopping.

When visiting the pavilion, we always stop and take time to explore the garden. The lotus pond in front of the temple is stocked with floating water lilies and other plants and fruit trees, and also features a small waterfall. The area was designed to create a mood of serenity and if you stand there long enough you might feel a sense of calm wash over you.

As you walk through the pavilion, keep following the "street" that takes you toward the back of the pavilion. This is where you'll find the House of Good Fortune, one of the largest shopping destinations in World Showcase.

And although it's one of the largest shopping locations, it is also a shop that too few people know about. This could be due to the fact that some tourists only make a quick stop at the front of the pavilion, never exploring it to its full potential.

The House of Good FortuneThe House of Good Fortune

The House of Good Fortune sells a wide assortment of authentic Chinese merchandise including lanterns, hats, wine, jewelry, silk robes, Buddah statues, and more. You'll also find Oriental rugs and Jingdezhen Chinaware in the store. The younger members of your group will love the stuffed pandas.

One of our favorite items in the store is the amazing display of Chinese teas and tea pots. If you're a fan of tea or if you collect tea pots this is the place for you!

The assortment of teas for sale in the House of Good Fortune is dizzying and you can find teas sold in many different packages, including Extra Gunpowder Green Tea in a box that weighs more than one pound. That's a lot of tea.

Of course if you're a tea drinker you'll need a fancy new teapot and cup set to go with your purchase of traditional Chinese tea. And at the House of Good Fortune you'll find traditional tea sets with bamboo handles, some with whimsical designs.

Our friends at the Disney Food Blog love the variety of teas and tea pots sold in The House of Good Fortune and recommend checking out the Yixing Teapot Collection. These tea pots are made from purple clay that is found in China's Jiangsu Province and since they aren't glazed on the inside they absorb the flavors from the various teas you brew over time.

Once you've shopped 'til you drop inside the House of Good Fortune, you'll find an open air market outside. Here you'll discover other merchandise including books, toys, and the Kidcot Stop. If you're traveling with kids, be sure to stop here as the cast members will often write your child's name in Chinese on their Kidcot cardboard figure.

And of course, you can't pass up the opportunity to try on a traditional Chinese straw hat as you're strolling through the outdoor market.

Outside the pavilion there are several kiosks where you can find souvenirs including parasols that you can personalize with your name in Chinese, and animal shaped umbrellas. You might also find puppets at one of the kiosks. You'll definitely want to stop at these on your way in or out (or both!) of the pavilion.

The next time you're wandering through World Showcase make sure you stop in the China Pavilion and take a peek in the House of Good Fortune. You never know what you'll find.

A big thanks to our friends at the Disney Food Blog for use of their photos!

We bought a lovely Chinese lantern night light at the House of Good Fortune. It looks great in our hallway upstairs. The hallway is painted red and decorated with Chinese art and other things as our daughter is from China. I'll be looking for something else to add to our home on our trip this year.

Hello. My daughter bought a parasol in the China section of Epcot. Unfortunately our dog ate it and she is devastated. Is there a way we can purchase one online and have it shipped?

Thank you,

Charles Strobel

We enjoyed an amazing visit to Epcot about 10 days ago. Never visited China before this most recent trip. I found a beautiful long silk red coat in The House of Good Fortune shop. I was unable to purchase it at that time. How do I go about contacting them to make this purchase - including measurements for them? Thanks!

Looking for help! We were there Dec. 26, 2018 and my son purched a Gardenia Penjing Seed kit. We followed the directions percisly and cannot seem to even get a sprout. The potting mix also had some mold on it when we opened the kit, but he was so excited about planting, I couldn't crush him bus there a way I can get in touch with someone to see if there's something I can do? Thank you!
