Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover [Looking Back]

Who doesn't love the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover? It's become a must-do for me during every trip to the Magic Kingdom.

The history of the TTA Peoplemover originates in Disneyland, where the original WEDWay PeopleMover circled guests above Tomorrowland beginning in July 1967. The simple ride vehicles were always moving, with each car having its own sound system that broadcasted a continuous audio commentary.

The concept was brought to the Magic Kingdom in 1975, with a few modifications. Rather than the ride vehicles having tops, the entire track was covered. And instead of having Goodyear tires, like the Disneyland attraction, the Magic Kingdom version uses linear induction to propel the vehicles along

The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover has undergone a few name changes over the years. It was first known as the WEDWay PeopleMover, until 1994. Then it was renamed the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. But last year, in a nod to its past, Disney renamed the attraction the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, adding the PeopleMover moniker back that so many loved.

Our forum members certainly love the TTA Peoplemover, too. Here they profess their love for the ride, especially as a great way to relax and hear the screams of those riding Space Mountain.

I didn't get a chance to ride this last year while was at the World. I do have it on my list for this year's visit.

I love this ride.
It's a shame the Disneyland version is no longer running.
Hopefully someday it'll return.

It's absolutely a MUST DO for me! I'm still sad that they didn't go back to the original name. They took the WED out and that's the most vital part. If not for Walter Elias Disney, there would be no WEDway People Move - which my husband and I still call it!

It's fun in a relaxing kind of way and it provides a nice break from the heat. It's great to be "in" Space Mountain, etc. This is absolutely one of the tops on our list - especially since we have medical problems which decrease the number of rides we can go on. I think this one will get multiple rides this year!

This is a must do for us, usually at least once during the day and once at night. It's so calm and relaxing.

We always do this ride at least a couple of times every trip. No matter how hot it is, once you are up on the ride, it seems so much cooler. Just a great chance to rest your feet, relax and enjoy the view.

A Disney Trip wouldn't be complete without at least one time around on the WEDway PeopleMover (I can't even remember the "new" name).

This ride is my absolute favorite ride in Tomorrowland. I love to just ride this ride over and over again especially at night. It maybe a boring ride where nothing really happens, but its a slow moving relaxing ride. ♥
