There is undoubtedly a lot of really good food at the Walt Disney World Resort. And sometimes, some of the best food comes in sandwich form. But we're not just talking about your standard sandwich featuring some sort of meat and toppings between two slices of bread. No way. We're talking about sweet sandwiches too.
Today we're going to check out some of the best sandwiches - sweet and savory versions - at Disney World.
One of our favorite spots for a great sandwich is Earl of Sandwich in Disney Springs. When the name of the restaurant features the word "sandwich" you really just expect deliciousness. And at Earl of Sandwich you won't be disappointed. A long-time favorite is the Caprese featuring fresh mozzarella, roma tomatoes, basil, and balsamic.
But you really have to try the Holiday Turkey sandwich. This used to be only available during the holidays but a while back they made it a year-round offering. Imagine it: turkey, cornbread stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, and mayo all stuffed into a sandwich. Culinary genius.
Sticking at Disney Springs for a bit, if you're looking for a really great fried chicken sandwich we recommend stopping by Chef Art Smith's Homecomin' Florida Kitchen. And some of the best burgers on property are on the menu at D-Luxe Burger, the Disney-owned burger joint.
You'll find a classic cheeseburger at D-Luxe Burger, but you might want to check out the El Diablo Burger made with Chorizo-and-Signature Blend Patty, Fried Banana Peppers, Pepper Jack Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, and Chipotle Mayonnaise; or maybe the Bacon and Blue Burger which is topped with bacon, onion jam, and blue cheese.
Speaking of blue cheese (we were), one of our favorite sandwiches on all of property is at the currently-closed-for-refurbishment Roaring Fork at Disney's Wilderness Lodge. The Roast Beef and Blue Sandwich is so good that we've made a special visit to Roaring Fork just to sink our teeth into it. Here's hoping it survives the refurb.
One of our favorite spots in the Magic Kingdom is Columbia Harbour House and while we're usually ordering the fried fish, sometimes we're just in the mood for something lighter. Like the Anchors Aweigh sandwich. It's a rather non-descript tuna sandwich on multigrain bread that is good when you're hungry but it's almost too hot to eat. You know, like all summer long in Orlando.
If you're looking for a sandwich made with waffles (and really, aren't we all?), we suggest you head over to Sleepy Hollow Refreshments in the Magic Kingdom. That's where you'll find a few delish waffle sandwiches. Our personal favorite is the "Fresh Fruit Waffle Sandwich" which is a waffle stuffed with fresh fruit and Nutella.
Trust us. This is an acceptable breakfast while on vacation. If you're looking for less fruit and more egg and meat for breakfast, we suggest the Egg, Ham, and Tomato Waffle Sandwich. There is also a Sweet and Spicy Chicken Waffle Sandwich that is OK.
The rest of the sandwiches on this unofficial list of the best sandwiches at Disney World all have one thing in common: they're all dessert.
In Epcot's France Pavilion you'll find two of the best ice cream sandwiches in existence " the Brioche Ice Cream Sandwich and the Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich.
The Croques Glace, or Brioche Ice Cream Sandwich, features a fresh brioche from Les Halles bakery filled with your choice of ice cream and sauce from L'Artisans. The sandwich is then pressed in a sandwich press and you get a warm and cold sandwich! You gotta try it.
The Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich at L'Artisans are also amazing, especially if you LOVE macarons. You'll find seasonal varieties throughout the year and you'll also usually find a chocolate macaron stuffed with chocolate ice cream, which is divine.
And finally, our favorite ice cream sandwich: the ice cream cookie sandwich at The Plaza Ice Cream Parlor in the Magic Kingdom. Chocolate ice cream sandwiched between two fresh chocolate chip cookies. Sounds good, right? Make it better by ordering a side of peanut butter sauce to drizzle over the cookie. Don't believe us? Ask our friends at the Disney Food Blog - they put it #OnTheList because it's that amazing.
And there it is our list of the best sandwiches (savory and sweet) at Disney World. What is your favorite sandwich at Disney? Let us know in the comments.
