The Walt Disney Birthplace Hopes to Open to the Public on December 5

Two Disney fans have purchased the home where Walt Disney was born in Chicago, Illinois and are in the process of restoring the property with the hopes of creating a museum to honor Walt. Dina Benadon and Brent Young hope to open The Walt Disney Birthplace on December 5, 2016.

Benadon and Young aren't planning a "static museum" in the house but rather an attraction with technology to bring the house to life for fans. The couple own Super 78, a media and entertainment company, and have done work for the Disney theme parks.

The two-story home is located in Chicago's Hermosa neighborhood and was purchased by the California-based couple after they learned of Walt's early life in Chicago. They say that they want to preserve a Disney landmark.

Benadon and Young have established a non-profit organization to help with the restoration complete with board members and advisers. As of now about 80 percent of the exterior of the home has been restored. The plans for the interior include restoring it to the period when Walt was born plus an exhibit space.

In addition to using the home as a museum there are also plans for the home to be the Center for Early Childhood Creativity and Innovation where kids from the neighborhood can participate in activities.
