The Walt Disney Company Named Most Socially Responsible Company

The Walt Disney Company was recently named one of the most socially responsible companies - sharing the top spot with Microsoft, Google, and BMW.

The ranking comes out of a study conducted by a private consulting firm called Reputation Institute, where more than 55,000 consumers in 15 countries were asked to identify companies with the strongest Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) reputation.

Based on the results, the top four companies were Microsoft with a score of 72.92, The Walt Disney Company with a score of 72.83, Google with a score of 72.71, and BMW with a score of 72.14. The companies were placed in a four-way tie because there was not a signification difference between their scores, according to the Reputation Institute.

In the survey, the scores for each company came from four indicators - trust, esteem, admiration, and good feeling. Then, Reputation Institute analyzed the "seven dimensions of corporate reputation" that include workplace, governance, citizenship, financial performance, leadership, products and services, and innovation.

Disney's score did show that the company has the best perception for Citizenship - approximately 50 percent of consumers surveyed said that Disney is a good corporate citizen, supporting good causes and protecting the environment.

In an article in Forbes, Kasper Ulf Nielsen, executive partner at Reputation Institute said "CSR speaks to who the company is, what it believes in and how it is doing business. It's a core element of reputation and can be used to help establish trust and goodwill amongst stakeholders."

I think Disney is going to have a problem being named "socially responsible" considering their attack on the disabled with their new access policy for rides. They will be a contender for irresponsible corporation of the year. You have my vote.

Terry - I'm not entirely sure, but I think that the central casting is near Downtown Disney. If you can't get there by bus I'm sure that it would be easy enough to hop in a taxi.

Bob - I haven't heard anything but positive reviews since the new disability access program has launched. Disney maintains it's dedication to service for all it's guests. Give it a chance!
