Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Grows New Roots

The Tree of Life, the iconic symbol of Disney's Animal Kingdom since 1998, recently went through a lengthy refurbishment. The construction walls have been removed to reveal an expanded central hub and "root" area of the tree featuring all-new carvings for guests to enjoy.

‘Rivers of Light’ Nighttime Show Coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom

The news from Disney's Animal Kingdom just keeps coming!

The park is about to undergo the largest expansion in the Animal Kingdom's history, which of course includes the construction of the Avatar-inspired land.

The expansion will also include new experiences and entertainment options for guests. One of these new experiences is the 'Rivers of Light,' an all-new nighttime spectacular recently announced by Disney.

‘Festival of the Lion King’ Moving to a New Theater at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Festival of the Lion King - the popular live show featuring songs from The Lion King - is moving to a new home at Disney Animal Kingdom sometime next year.

Disney recently announced that a new structure is under construction and should be ready to host the show sometime in 2014. The new theater will be located in the Harambe Village section in the Africa area of the Animal Kingdom, which seems fitting considering The Lion King takes place in Africa.

Avatarland Delayed?

Could work on an "Avatar"-based land within Walt Disney World be delayed? According to online reports, the answer is yes.

The reports say work on the sequels (yes, sequels with an "s") to the blockbuster 2009 film has not yet started and no release dates have been set for either "Avatar 2" or "Avatar 3." This stall could spill over to "Pandora: The World of Avatar" - the "Avatarland" that is slated to be built in Disney's Animal Kingdom.

New Appointment in Disney Imagineering Indicates Possible 'Significant Activity' at WDW

It's been reported Walt Disney Imagineering has recently undergone a shuffle of sorts of its employees - all of which could indicate new activity in Walt Disney World's future.

The newest change in Walt Disney Imagineering has Kathy Magnum taking on the new role of "Producer, Walt Disney World Portfolio." This new role will have Magnum partnering up with Jack Blitch and working with Meg Crofton as a creative producer for Walt Disney World. She'll continue to report to Walt Disney Imagineering Chief Creative Executive Bruce Vaughn.

Animal Kingdom Will Be Home For Future AVATAR Project

At a press conference yesterday, Bob Iger and Tom Staggs announced that Disney and the folks that brought you AVATAR have formed a "long-term creative partnership" that will include bringing the movie's fantasy world to Disney's Animal Kingdom.

Anyone who follows the Disney fan community knows that Pandora - The World of Avatar is a special place. After all, it's not often you can travel 4.4 light years away on your vacation. The creation of Disney's Animal Kingdom was a hugely ambitious venture. Nature and conservation were two of the many things that Walt Disney was passionate about, so it was not a stretch for the Eisner administration to add a fourth gate to Walt Disney World that centered around animals. One of the greatest hurdles to the creation of Animal Kingdom was convincing critics that the concept was viable as a theme park and that it would be substantially different from a zoo. In a tongue-in-cheek way, the park was affectionately known as "Nahtazu".
