The Walt Disney World Resort felt the force of Hurricane Irma Sunday night after the hurricane took a turn and headed north to Orlando. The theme parks were closed Sunday and Monday due to the storm, but the Resort hotels were full of guests riding out the wind and rain.

Saturday, Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek was thrilled to announce a sweeping line-up of exciting plans coming to Walt Disney World in time for its 50th Anniversary. One of the exciting new additions is a Disney Vacation Club property called the Disney Riviera Resort.

The nation's largest electric car rental fleet is launching in Orlando as part of the Drive Electric Orlando program. And the Walt Disney World Resort is a partner in the program.

News Tidbits: RFID Locks and Ralph Meet and Greet

Here are a couple of news tidbits from the happiest place on earth:

First up, the guest room locks at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort are getting a new technological makeover. Currently, news out of WDW has it the resort has started converting door locks to the new RFID locking method. RFID locks will enable guests to enter their rooms with just a touch - no card insertion needed. Right now, it looks like it will take about a month before the new lock work is completed.
