Movie Buzz: Disney Developing Detective Movie

For those of you who like Disney and to watch detectives at work on the big screen, you're in luck. Looks like Disney has acquired an untitled project that will feature a reluctant female detective.

The project is to be penned by Ashley Bradley, a relatively unknown and untried screenwriter. Marc Guggenheim, best known for co-writing "The Green Lantern," is also on board as producer as part of Collider Entertainment.

Collider Entertainment was launched at last year's Comi-Con; this is the first project on tap at a studio for that fledgling company.

"Lone Ranger" Back in the Saddle

It was off, and now it could be on. We're talking, of course, about the Johnny Depp/ Disney collaboration "The Lone Ranger."

Back in August, Disney halted production on the movie over budget issues. Sources are now saying these issues look to be resolved soon which means a crew can be rehired so production can start early in 2012.

'Lion King' Tops Box Weekend Box Office

It was a huge hit when it was released some seventeen years ago, and now it's 3-D version has taken the theaters by storm. "The Lion King" reigned supreme at the box office this past weekend, taking in an estimated $29.3 million.

This amount almost doubles the $15 million Disney had estimated the film to gross and may be attributed partly to the vast majority of "Lion King" audiences opting to check out the 3-D version of the classic film. It's said that 92 percent of the film's viewers elected to buy the pricier 3-D ticket this weekend.

Disney Hires New Head of Casting

Disney got a new head of casting when it hired Randi Hiller to fill the slot of VP of casting. The post had been vacant since February's layoffs.

Hiller, an independent casting director with more than twenty years of experience, has worked on Marvel pictures in the past, including "The Avengers," "Thor," and "Iron Man 2." Her resume also includes a few past Disney pics - "Miracle" and "Race to Witch Mountain." She is also noted for her work on the Oscar-winner "Crash."

Starz to Pull Disney Content from Netflix Streaming

Disney movie fans who utilize Netflix streaming service to enjoy their flicks might have to look elsewhere come February. It looks like talks and negotiations between Netflix and Starz Entertainment have ceased with no agreement.

Movie Buzz: A New Cinderella?

There's no doubt that Snow White is the princess of choice these days with no less than three films in the works. Disney, however, might be giving an update to another classic princess: Cinderella.

It appears Disney has already purchased a script for a live action movie about the servant-turned-princess. Written by The Devil Wears Prada's Aline Brosh McKenna, Disney is said to have paid $7 million for the script.

Disney Stops Production on "The Lone Ranger"

Fans of Johnny Depp and Disney movies will have to cross one of their must-see list. Disney has stopped production of "The Lone Ranger" that was set to start filming this fall.

It appears the reason lies behind a disagreement over the budget between Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer. Disney is said to have had a firm budget for the western in mind while Bruckheimer had a different idea.
