Disney VoluntEARS Take Part in Global Service Project in Ecuador

Last fall, 30 Disney VoluntEARS traveled to Ecuador for Disney's first-ever Global Service Project.

The project was part of the 30th anniversary celebration of the VoluntEARS program.

The VoluntEARS traveled to a remote area of Ecuador to support a local village, helping to build a classroom for a Quichua community in the upper Amazon.

As they worked alongside local community members, the VoluntEARS hauled bags of rocks and gravel, mixed cement, and built columns for the classroom's foundation.

Disney VoluntEARS Spread Holiday Cheer through Donation of 36,000 Toys to Toys for Tots Campaign

Walt Disney World Resort cast members have been working harder than Santa's elves to make the holidays magical for families in Central Florida.

More than 36,000 toys have been collected by cast member VoluntEARS have collected and the new toys were donated to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots to benefit kids in Orange and Seminole counties.

The VoluntEARS have also given more than 6,000 volunteer hours helping sort and pack the toys and helping the Marines register families for the annual giving campaign.

Disney Sponsored KidZone Area during Annual Come Out With Pride Orlando Event

Earlier this month, the annual Come Out with Pride Orlando event was held at Lake Eola Park in downtown Orlando, and Disney sponsored a kid's area as part of the company's ongoing commitment to diversity.

In the KidZone area at the event, kids and families had a chance to enjoy face painting and crafts with Disney VoluntEARS.

Disney Donates $100K to Support Disaster Relief in Central Florida

Walt Disney World recently donated $100,000 to the American Red Cross Mid-Florida Region to support the organization's disaster relief services.

This donation, which will be used immediately by the Red Cross to help families impacted by local disasters, is part of Disney's ongoing support of the Red Cross' Annual Disaster Giving Program. The program supports emergency and disaster preparedness around the country.

Walt Disney World Resort Donates Money to Central Florida Charities in Recognition of Disney VoluntEARS

Throughout the month of June the Walt Disney World Resort donated nearly $1 million to nonprofits and community organizations in Central Florida in recognition of more than 230,000 hours donated by Disney VoluntEARS.

The funds - known at Disney EARS to You grants - were earmarked by cast members for 500 nonprofits and service groups, including Give Kids the World, SPCA of Central Florida, and the Central Florida Film Festival.

This month marks the 30th anniversary of Disney VoluntEARS, the global, company-wide initiative that provides Disney Cast Members with the chance to contribute their time and make a positive impact on their communities.

Disney VoluntEARS Donate Record Number of Toys

The Disney VoluntEARS have been hard at work collecting toys at WDW's toy drive and recently made a record-setting donation to U.S. Marine Corps Reserve's Central Florida Toys for Tots. Some 30,000 toys, gathered during this year's Toys for Tots toy drive, were delivered by cast members and Mickey himself recently.

Staff at the organization's headquarters say this is the largest donation of toys to date and will go to help some 20,000 children in the Florida counties of Seminole and Orange have a brighter holiday season.

Disney VoluntEARS Make "Little Mermaid" Friends for CANstruction Competition

The fourth annual Orange County CANstruction contest was held recently with Disney represented by its VoluntEARS.

For the competition, the VoluntEARS constructed Sebastian and Flounder from "The Little Mermaid" completely out of canned goods and non-perishable food items. Around 4,200 pounds of canned items like black beans and corn plus juice pouches were used to create the structure.

Disney and the Toys for Tots Foundation

Toys for Tots has been around since 1947 and has served tens of thousands of children in need over the last 64 years. In 1948, Walt Disney and his animators designed a logo for Toys for Tots that is still used to this day. A Walt Disney World cast member has been named the 2014 Disney VoluntEAR of the Year.

Kristen Lehrer, a resource manager at Disney's Animal Kingdom, was chosen by her fellow Disney cast members. She received a surprise celebration, a trophy, a handshake from Mickey Mouse, and a $2,500 contribution to the charity of her choice.

Disney's outstanding commitment to the communities of Central Florida not only brings magic to families through the Disney Parks and Resorts but through a vast array of charitable giving programs and Disney VoluntEARS. The Cast Members are truly the ones who bring the magic home and in 2012, Disney Cast Members dubbed "VoluntEARS" gave upwards of 216,000 hours toward improving the lives of Central Floridians.
