Disney Scores Eight Academy Award Nominations

The Walt Disney Studios has earned eight Academy Award nominations including Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.

Early Oscar favorites Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson did not receive nominations for their roles at Walt Disney and P.L. Travers, and Saving Mr. Banks was shut out of the Best Picture category. The film did get nominated for Best Original Score.

Jessica Chastain Featured as Merida in New Disney Dream Portrait by Annie Leibovitz

The newest Disney Dream portrait marks the first time that a Pixar character has been featured in the series.

Photographer Annie Leibovitz's latest portrait features Academy Award-nominated actress Jessica Chastain (The Help, Zero Dark Thirty) as Merida from Brave.

The title of the portrait is "Where your destiny awaits" and features Chastain on horseback in Merida's famous green frock, aiming a bow and arrow.

Pixar-Themed Cruises Coming This Fall

The folks at Pixar have given us many of our favorite characters, and now some of that same magic will be found at sea. Recently, the Disney Cruise Line announced a series of Pixar-themed cruises planned for this fall.

Cruises set to offer the Pixar theme are seven-night costal California cruises aboard the Disney Wonder. A variety of activities centered around Pixar characters are planned for each cruise and will include:

  • Artist and filmmakers giving an inside look into the making of the newest Pixar film, Brave.
  • Sneak peeks of upcoming Pixar films

Disney Pixar Films Hit AMC Theaters for Holiday Weekend

Can't make it to Disney World with the family this Memorial Day weekend but still want something "Disney" to do? Why not head out to your local AMC theater to take in a few Disney Pixar films on the big screen? Starting today, Friday, May 25 and running through Monday, May 28, AMC Theaters will be showing a selection of animated films from Disney Pixar for $6 per person.

New Disney Vinylmation Collectibles Unveiled

Attention Disney collectors! This week, Disney has chosen to debut two new Vinylmation collections at this year's Comi-Con.

First is the Robots Vinylmation series which was unveiled just two days ago at the annual convention. This line takes a cue and inspiration from wind-up toys of the 1950's.

There are a dozen of the three-inch figures that sell for $9.95 as well as three
nine-inch figures that retail for $39.95. Look for this line to be available for purchase in Disney stores today.

"Toy Story 4" In the Works

Tom Hanks has confirmed through two recent yet separate interviews that there will be more "Toy Story" in the future.

Hanks, who voices Woody, recently did an interview with BBC to promote his latest movie "Larry Crowne." Talk turned to "Toy Story" and whether Hanks would be back for another installment. His answer?

"I think there will be, yeah. Yeah, yeah. I think they're working on it now."

Details Emerge On New Pixar Short "La Luna"

Fans of Pixar short films have had some pleasant surprises recently as details regarding the newest short "La Luna" have emerged. Earlier this month, Pixar released a synopsis and a still photo from the short, and this week saw even more bits of information about the film surface.

Reportedly attached to the full-length film "Brave," "La Luna" tells the story of a young boy who goes to work for the first time with his father and grandfather. The way the trio commutes to work is a bit unconventional as they row out to sea in an old wooden boat, and the work itself is a mystery.

Pixar Celebrating 25th Anniversary at Epcot

It's hard to believe Pixar is turning 25! To help them celebrate, Epcot will join in the fun with special Pixar-centered greetings, discussions and activities May 13-15.

For those wanting to meet and greet characters from Pixar films should make the World Showplace (located between the United Kingdom and Canada pavilions) a must-see stop. There, characters from "Toy Story 3," "Up," "The Incredibles," and "Monsters, Inc." will be on hand for autographs and photos.

"Toy Story 3" Nabs Best Animated Feature Golden Globe

The Disney-Pixar smash hit "Toy Story 3" not only walked away with auidences' hearts this year, but also came away with the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature at Sunday night's 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards.

Though it was predicted to be a sure-bet win for "Toy Story 3", the film beat out several others for the top animated prize, including Disney's "Tangled."

Disney Pixar Withdraws From Animation Awards

This year saw a major change for Disney Pixar as they intentionally withdrew from the Hollywood chapter of the International Animated Film Society. The Society hands out annual awards, more commonly known as Annie Awards, for achievements in animation.

Bob Iger to Remain Chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company Through June 30, 2018

The Walt Disney Company Board of Directors has extended the contract of Chairman and CEO Bob Iger through June 30, 2018.

Iger has been at the helm of The Walt Disney Company since 2005.

Under Iger's leadership Disney has acquired Pixar, Lucasfilm, and Marvel. The company has also seen an expansion of its parks and resorts around the world, including the opening next year of Shanghai Disneyland.

It’s Tough To Be A Bug at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

The spectacular Tree of Life draws guests deeper into Disney's Animal Kingdom. As the dramatic 145 foot high Park icon comes into focus it is apparent that its massive truck is ornately carved with representations of 325 different animals.
