Crews Battled Brush Fire At Disney This Week

Fire crews found themselves battling to contain a brush fire at the Walt Disney World Resort this past week. The blaze, which flared up in a wooded area between the Fort Wilderness Resort and a Magic Kingdom parking lot, first drew fire crews last Sunday.

Bob Jones, an assistant chief with Reedy Creek Emergency Services, said the fire flared up to 5 acres at one point. Neither the resort or park were in any danger, though the fire did spew a lot of smoke in its immediate vicinity.

Blackbeard Coming Soon to Pirates of the Caribbean Rides

Blackbeard, as portrayed by actor Ian McShane, will be making an appearance in the beloved Pirates of the Caribbean rides of both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Beginning May 20, you can catch Blackbeard in the grotto scene's ghostly waterfall. The upcoming appearance coincides with the also forthcoming release of "Pirates of the Caribbean - On Stranger Tides."

There will be two new Specialty Room offerings coming to Walt Disney World Resort soon: health and wellness suites and Royal Guest Rooms.

Disney Plans Activities for Easter

This time of year is traditionally a busy time at Walt Disney World as spring break and the Easter holiday combine to attract many guests to Disney. To celebrate this year's Easter, Disney has some activities planned for guests planning to visit the happiest place on earth.

Disney Has Significant Impact on Florida's Economy

Last week, Disney released the findings of an economic impact report from the year 2009. How's this for impact: according to the findings, Disney generated over $18 billion in total economic activity for that year. In addition, some 160,000 jobs were created by Disney in that year alone.

Walt Disney World President Meg Crofton called the numbers "impressive and went on to say: ""We make a difference in Central Florida and the state, and we're really proud of that."

Ridley Pearson Kicking Off 'Kingdom Keepers IV' Book Tour in Downtown Disney

Ridley Pearson will be at Downtown Disney April 4 to kick off a book tour promoting his newest novel "Kingdom Keepers IV: Power Play." After a stop at Disney's Hollywood Studios April 5, the tour brings the author to both coasts as well as points in between.

"Kingdom Keepers IV: Power Play" is the latest installment in the popular young adult series that features teenagers taking on the dark forces lurking around Walt Disney World.

New Medal for 2012 Disney Marathon Weekend

Runners, lace up your shoes for the 2012 Disney Marathon weekend, which is set for January 5 through January 8. Registration opened up this past week, and runners have several options to choose from.

The Disney Marathon is a 26.2 mile course that winds its way throughout the four parks. Those wanting to participate in the marathon, but not wanting to run the full distance, can pair up with a partner for the Disney Marathon Relay in which each runner will be responsible for 13.1 miles. Both options will share the same course.

Disney Sued Over Hot Cheese

A lawsuit claiming negligence against Disney for serving too-hot nacho cheese has been filed by the family of a four-year-old boy.

Maria Carmen and Michael Jerome Harris, Jr., visited Walt Disney World last March with their four-year-old son. At one point during their stay, the California couple says their son was scalded by nacho cheese served at the resort. In their lawsuit, the couple alleges that Disney is negligent and reckless for not regulating the temperature of the cheese.

The family is seeking $200,000 in damages for "suffering, anguish, fright, worry, and shock."
