4 Hour Pick-up Time For Magical Express Departures

What do you all think of the new 4 hour prior to your flight pick-up time for Magical Express departures? I hear that the increase is because of heavier TSA security, more people traveling for the holidays, and construction at MCO. Times are for both domestic and international travelers.

I'm glad that they want to get us there on time, but I hate that it has shrunk my WDW hours. I'm always trying to squeeze in a little more shopping at Disney Springs on my departure days. I do hope that this gets reevaluated after the holidays, and perhaps goes back to the 3 hour prior pick-up.

What are your thoughts about the new time schedule? Have you noticed longer lines and heavier security at MCO?

It's always been about 4 hours for Canadian flights so it doesn't affect us. We usually have early flights anyway so can't do anything on our departure days. Although extra sleep would be nice laugh

I am ok with it. I usually try to get on a earlier bus anyway if there is room. I'd rather get there early than feel stressed that I'm going to miss my flight.

I didn't realize that International flights were 4 hours. I can imagine that moving everything to that time period would help them stay organized and more streamlined overall.

Both of these. Although the last couple of trips, we've had later flights. I just find we are ready to go home by the end of the trip and we just want to get going. wink

They moved to the 4-hour prior pickup time the day before we left our November trip. I'm not a fan, especially with such a last minute announcement, because it cut an hour out of our day and we had to scramble to change our pickup time for my mom's scooter. We also have TSA precheck so normally can get through the line pretty quickly. That being said, I totally understand the reasoning behind it. If the 4-hour pickup time is still in affect in January we will probably be Ubering because there is really no need for us to get there that early.

I think is it a great idea. We were down in October and even with our 3-hr pick and going through the TSA queue, we had about 20 minutes prior to plane boarding. There were a lot of people in the TSA queue that were going to miss their flight. TSA started announcing that if your flight was leaving in the next 20 minutes, please go through the "Cleared check" line.

I'm happy to hear that the 3-hour window is back. Our last flight home was on a holiday weekend and we made it through TSA in a generous 15 minutes and our line was even halted entirely for about 5-7 minutes because some genius in front of us thought that 20 oz. water bottles didn't count as liquid and it was totally ok to take them through the checkpoint. *facepalm* We had left Saratoga Springs via uber slightly more than 3 hours before our flight was scheduled to depart. Within an hour, we had arrived at MCO, gone through security, trammed to the terminal, realized that Benn had left his hat at security, trammed back to the main building, retrieved the hat, trammed BACK to the terminal, and were sitting down eating our dinner.

Will they work with you at all for a later departure? We have a 1:30pm flight, but a breakfast reservation at 8 at Cape May....

We have TSA precheck so we usually find the pickup times too early. I've sometimes had luck calling Magical Express and requesting a later pickup time if they have room on the next bus, but sometimes they really put their foot down. Even if they move you, they make sure that you are then taking responsibility if you miss your flight because of a later drop off. The three hour pickup window also takes into account that they sometimes have other resorts to pickup after yours.
