Activities for a Park-Less trip

So I think Joe's approach is really good if you're taking someone who's got trouble walking. If you cut out the parks, you take out a ton of walking. What are some of the best things to do on a trip without parks?

There are many non-park activities available, one of the first that come to mind is the miniature golf courses at WDW. Fantasia Gardens and Winterland Summerland which gives you a total of four different courses.

We're big "hang out by the pool" fans, I have to say! And don't forget all of the great "off property" things to do.

I also really like to tour the hotels and resorts. They all have such different styles and flavors, and it's fun to explore the different rooms and activities they have for people (whether they're staying there or not!)

I go several times with my senior Mom & Aunt and we always end up doing the boat rides, sitting on the Boardwalk on the rockers watching the world go by.

We've done a spa day with a massage and facial at SSR.

They like riding the monorail and having dinner at the GF.

Riding the boat from the VWL during fireworks time at Magic Kingdom.

We play pool at the Recreation halls in the resorts.

Mom loves the pools and hot tubs. We spend hours doing that.

At Christmas time we go to all the hotels and see the Christmas decorations.

Mom loves Downtown Disney. She loves to shop.

When I'm with them I notice things that I don't normally notice on a commando park vacation. We sit alot and take in the beautiful gardens and scenery. For some reason Mom loves to sit in the lobbies and talk to anyone who will chat with her.

Usually we go during their birthdays so get a birthday button on check in and watch the show begin.

I've been doing more park-less trips lately and I'm really enjoying the DVC more when I take time to appreciate the creativity that goes into all the little details.

Just reading these ideas is making me feel relaxed. There are so many different types of WDW trips...how can anyone ever get bored?

This is one of the best. You can spend a whole trip checking out all the Christmas decorations. You have to go see every resort's tree for example!

Honestly, I don't understand people who say that Disney is boring. I agree with you I never get bored and I'm always going back to see what's new.

Some people will just never get it. mickey

I LOVE Disney at Christmastime. I've been very rarely at that time, but it heightens the whole season for me. The resorts are gorgeous, Downtown Disney and the Boardwalk are decorated and fun --- so cool!

We're going in early December this year and can't wait to enjoy all the Christmas-y-ness! We've also pledged to take this trip nice and slow to take in a lot of the things we didn't take the time to enjoy last trip. I've got some some neat things up my sleeve. Once I FINALLY finish the TR from last trip, I'll start a planning/idea thread for the new trip.

I actually sat down to work on ye olde TR recently and was really excited to have time to get some work done on it. I got all settled into my chair with the trip notes...and I couldn't read DW's writing. I wanted to wait until I had some time to work on it again and she was around to ask what the heck that part said. Unfortunately, that's like a perfect storm in our house.

I think that is the best thing about Disney...there is something for everyone. I'll never tire of WDW...if I want activity, there are the parks, if I want relaxation there is the pool or the spa. If I want to chat, there are at least 100,000 people around strike up a conversation...where else can you go in the world and meet people from so many different places...I LOVE WDW clapping

You got me thinking about whether people are more likely to be chatty at WDW, so I started a new thread. It's an interesting mix. Some people are so happy to be there that they're nice to be around and some are so stressed out about doing everything that they're really grouchy and difficult to be around.

There definitely is something for everyone there though. The more often I go, the less important the whole "rides" component gets. I increasingly enjoy just the atmosphere there and the relaxing.

I think that's pixie dust that makes the atmosphere.

I think that might just have something to do with it! There is definitely a different feel to WDW. I think it also has to do with knowing you don't have to work for a week!

That is one of the best things about staying "On Property"...the outside world just disappears. For the entire time we're at Disney, our only care is to get to our ADR on time!!!

I agree. Sometimes when we have to go into Orlando for something, it just kills our Pixie Dust buzz. laugh

Millie: We find that a lot of the time we don't even let our ADRs stress us out. If one of them is making us stress we just move it or do something else. Although that rarely happens because the food is one of my big priorities. biggrin

Us too. I've found them to be pretty easy to manage with some forethought (granted we don't have kids).

I'm with you on the food Brad...one of our priorities too!!

We're trying to decide where we'll eat at Thanksgiving time. We have so many favorites but we like to try new places too! Ah...decisions...really intrigued by California Grill...just for the experience...I've heard the food is fantastic.

The not having kids part makes the moving around Disney World MUCH easier, I imagine! laugh I watch parents with strollers and diaper bags and wonder how much more planning they must have to do! sad

Yum! California Grill! They sometimes have interesting Thanksgiving menus, too. What else are you considering?

California Grill would be fun on Thanksgiving. Do they do any unusual fireworks on Turkey Day?

Kind of depends on where we'll be on Thanksgiving. We're waiting for the EMH schedule for Nov before we make any ADR decisions. One thing I do know is that I'd like to have breakfast at Kona Cafe this time. We usually don't do much of anything for breakfast, coffee at our resort and some granola bars on the run. But the breakfast at Kona Cafe sounds so good...and how can you pass up Kona Coffee!!

I wonder how Beirgarten would be for Thanksgiving? I'm trying some unconventional suggestions.

Biergarten is one of my favorites, love the braised cabbage and sauerbraten!! It's so hard to pass up our favorites but we almost have to in order to try new places.

We'll only be in the World for 5 days this trip so it'll be "doubly" hard!!

Yeah we have that problem too. It's so hard to choose between trying something new and doing a favorite. Particularly so because sometimes the favorite doesn't live up to your memory.

Are you leaning towards trying something new for your Thanksgiving dinner?
