All Stars vs. Pop Century

Note from Brad: I have added this to the list of "Comparison Threads"

DW and I are planning the next trip an considering all of our options. After the long/short trip threads got us thinking, we're considering doing a split stay this year so we can stay longer.

Having not stayed at any of the all stars or at pop, we have no idea the ups and downs. Any advice would be appreciated.

I've only stayed at Pop Century, but I can give props to that resort. It was a fun stay with a great food court and decent pools. I really liked wandering around the resort and seeing all of the giant icons from the different decades!

Quietest areas would probably be those farthest from the central lobby and pool areas (50's and 90's). Those two sections also have their own "quiet" pools--nicely sized--which is nice. There's also guest laundry facilities near those pools (also nice).

You won't get the room size or amenities of a deluxe, and, of course, the rooms are motel-style (meaning the doors are outside and you won't get a balcony), but as long as that's what you're expecting, it's a great resort. Smile

The easy drive-up of moderates and values is sometimes a plus. Who wants to deal with walking a mile from the parking lot to your room all the time. I get plenty of walking in!

I really do agree. Walking from the parking lot to the main hotel at deluxe resorts is a trek, plus then you have to walk down tons of hallways to your room. I love to walk, but at midnight after a long day in the parks, that walk can be brutal. At mods and values, you just park and walk into your room.

Now, if you're taking Disney transportation and you're not near a bus stop, that's another story!

I've stayed at both the All Stars Sports and the Pop Century and my vote is for the Pop hands down! They both have great theming and the "feel" of them isn't really that different. Both have rooms decorated to the theme and such but they're the same size rooms, the same layout with the main building and a great big fun pool by it, etc, etc. So they're pretty much the same sans the theme but the one thing the Pop has that the All Stars don't have is it's own bus. When you're tired at the end of the day, it's great not to have to stop at another resort before you finally get to your own.

Oh, and also, the Pop is in a different county where the tax percentage (at least in 2007) was different. So it'll save you a little bit of money on the room.

Yes, yes, yes!! That's one thing that POP, AKL, CSR, and others have over most of the deluxes as well--you share busses at all the Epcot and MK resorts, too, don't you?

I don't think you do at WL either.

Does anyone prefer All-Star to Pop Century?

We'll definitely have to check that out. Does that happen with any other resorts?

I don't know. The values are the only ones we ever look at staying in. But it's worth checking with your travel agent to see what county each resort is in. WDW's property is in two different counties (although their names escape me right now).

Just wanted to check in on this thread and give my 2 cents now that we've visited both Pop and All Stars Movies -- I think we'd got with Pop as well. It just seems better themed and peppier...like they got a lot of practice building and designing the All Stars and then got it "right" with Pop.

I guess I sounded a little snobby in my last post, so I did want to say that subvetss makes a good point that there's not _that_ much difference between Pop and All-Stars. But I'd say all the little things go in favor of Pop. Pop is just a little nicer, newer, friendlier, etc. Has anyone tried a renovated All Stars room? Maybe that would make a difference. Also, if Pop was sold out and I had to stay in the All-Stars I wouldn't be that torn up about it. I'd just prefer Pop.

I have never stayed at the pop, but we stayed in a renovated room in 2006 and it was nice. It was better than an average Holiday Inn room and the location couldn't be beat! That said, next time i want to try Pop

Does anyone know if they're considering building the animation suites still? I haven't heard anything about it for a while.

In our last trip to Disney we select Disney's Pop Century Resort because it was the inexpensive hotel as compared to other Disney hotels. We stayed there for one week, the room was lavish and the restaurant was also too good. Definitely I would go back to this Hotel, and recommend it also.

Best Regards,
