The one restaurant you would expect to offer ale or beer is "Liberty Tree Tavern". It's supposed to be a "Tavern". They don't offer beer, wine, etc., so why make an exception for "Be Our Guest"? Don't think it is really necessary.

I think it's because of the French theme. Logistically, it's also probably easier to start serving alcohol in a restaurant from the start rather than change the facilities of an existing location to adapt to the change (wine cellars, installation of taps, cooling areas for bottles and kegs).

I agree Poppet. I can not help but to think that Gastons Tavern will soon be added to places you will be able to purchase alcohol. Then why not Libery Tree Tavern and Diamond Horseshoe. To me they all seem like they would sell it.

I don't like it. It goes against Walt's vision. This is just the start to the down hill slope. They will see the money they make in the wine and beer sales and then it will show up in Tony's, and the round table.

I'm not sure I 100% agree with this. Disney is smart and has already seen the money they can make off of beer and wine sales based on the restorts and other parks. There is a reason that they've kept MK dry for this long. I don't think it will be a new revelation to them that "Hey, if we sell alcohol, we'll make money!"

As far as the OP, I'm a little indifferent. I like having a glass of wine with dinner, however I don't necessarily feel like I'm missing out by not having one in MK. As long as it remains contained to being only served with food in a sit down restuarant as it would be with BOG, I'm ok with it. I'm not going to be upset with them serving beer and wine just for the sake of keeping it a 100% dry park as long as the atmosphere of MK remains the same.

Eeew... I saw the results of that scenario at Great America last month, not pretty.

Ultimately this will save me a trip out of the park for a nice sit down dinner, so I'm pretty cool with the change. I know the community at large will be up in arms though.

Your "up in arms" comment reminded me of a situation here when a formerly dry restaurant got a license to sell beer and wine. "Keep it dry!" some people complained. "If people want to drink they should go to a bar!"

But some people don't want to "drink." We don't want to sit around downing glass after glass till we're silly, sick, or staggering. We want to enjoy a nice meal - emphasis on the food - with a glass of wine. (Or a slice or three of pizza with a beer.) We don't get drunk, or even a little tipsy. We aren't likely to find a first-rate meal (or even a first-rate pizza) in a bar, and we have no interest in dining alongside drunks. For us, having a drink with a meal isn't about the drink. It's about taking a good meal and making it better with a wine or beer that complements the food.

So thanks to WDW for giving us someplace where we can get a nice meal and a glass of wine without leaving MK.

Well said!

I hope not but this has "Disaster" written all over it. Going directly against Walt's vision is not a smart move in general.

I heartily agree, but the current "regime" now running Walt's empire doesn't give a rat's patootee what Walt thought or wanted. All they see is the bottom line, and as long as it is in the black (very black) then it's all good. As a shareholder I agree with that vision, but as a guest I disagree with it.

I honestly dont understand how its going to be a 'disaster'. Surely that word should be saved for actual disasters, not just serving some alcohol? I dont wish to be rude, i just think thats over stretching it a bit Smile xxxx

Thanks JoAnn for that link to AllEars. Jack Spence is absolutely right - we really don't know what Walt would think. I see both sides of the discussion. In the past two days I have wanted to add my "two cents" worth and really couldn't come up with the right words to say - until I read that article. I am not a drinker (maybe 3-4 glasses of wine a year). I just hope that those who choose to imbibe would be responsible but that is all it is hope. I agree there are 3 other parks that serve alcoholic beverages. I just have to trust that those who make the decisions at WDW have made the right one.

ITA with you both! More families with little kids attend MK over the other parks. I'd hate to see a family vacation and a child's memory of Disney ruined by some drunken baffoon. Even if everyone was trying to be responsible, there's always that one bad apple that will ruin it for the rest. I really don't mind so much in AK,HS, and Epcot but MK should be left dry.

This is just my opinion but I think the "drunken baffoons" will stay at Epcot or DHS where they can get a beer on every corner and not go to a restaurant that serves beer they probably can't pronounce. Since dinner at BOG doesn't start until 4:00pm, if they do make it to MK, they've had a head start.

Also just my opinion, but based on the prices of the beer and wine, I can't see a lot of people having more than one with dinner.

I agree with that as well. I had saying this... But I think it will be a more sophisticated experience I think? I just wish the park was dry.

Experiences from my past is why I made that statement. As I said, "I hope it doesn't" but it has the potential of becoming a disaster. I truly hope not. When I was a kid we used to have local fair/festivals strictly for "Families" they were dry. A couple years later they did offer beer, wine and let me tell you it was a full blown disaster. People were "tossing their accounts" everywhere, foul language, etc. Not the "Family Atmosphere" as what they were meant to be. It was very sad and then they were closed down never to come back. More "little children" attend MK over all the other parks. I hate to have some child's memories of Disney spoiled. I don't mean to offend anyone by saying that. If I am, I am very sorry, not my intention.
