Cancelling a DVC reservation

I'm thinking about doing the Princess Half next February (2015) and there is currently still available room at our home resort BLT. I'd like to book it now to make sure I have a room before registration for Princess opens July 15. I'm just wondering what happens if I need to cancel (if I can't sucker someone into coming with me wink ). I read on the DVC site that if you cancel 31 or more days in advance, the points are returned to your use year that the reservation falls under. Does that mean if I use 2014 points for a 2015 reservation, the points will go into my 2015 use year?

When does your use year end for 2014 points?

Thats were I think the stickler is going to be you are borrowing from 2015 use years into 2014 use year vacation, not a 2015 vacation. I would definitely call your DVC rep and ask them about this. I'm am no expert on the DVC points, but I would think if you book this , then cancel after for banking window for your 2014 points passes, you may lose those 2014 points. That reservation falls under your 2014 use year, not your 2015 use year. Call DVC and get the right info from them. I wouldn't trust getting that answer from anyone else.

If you can't sucker someone into going with, go alone. Seriously, you'll have a blast.

I believe I have to bank points by September 30. If i decide not to go, I'd be deciding by July 15 when Princess registration opens so it'd be before I bank 2014 remaining points. Would that make a difference do you think?

I've thought about that actually. I'm just a bit nervous about flying alone Puzzled . I think I'd be fine on my own once I was at my resort Smile

Sept 30 is the banking date for February Use Year. 2014 points would expire 1-31-15. You would need to bank the 2014 points first, if you want to use them for a Feb 2015 reservation. If your Use Year is March, the banking date is Oct 31. You can book a Feb 2015 reservation with the 2014 points, but if you cancel the reservation after 10-31-14, the points would expire 2-28-15. Hope that helps.

Good news! My dad is going to come with me Smile I haven't booked yet since I didn't want to chance it. Now here's another question: if I book at BLT then decide to switch over to say OKW at the 7 months, do I just get the difference in points back or is it similar to cancelling? Sorry, I've never done this before Puzzled and it's a 30 minute wait on the phone right now waiting

If you cancel BLT, all of the points go back into your account, prior to making the new reservation at another resort at the 7 month mark. I understand you are new to this, and more comfortable speaking direct to member services, but be aware that there is an online option as well, to avoid the wait. I book my own reservations online, and only call member services to cancel/make changes. Easy to check availability for specific dates/resorts as well. Good luck with the reservation!

I actually did end up booking online. It just automatically took the points from 2015 which I didn't know it did (if I had known that I wouldn't have started this thread). Thanks for all your help though! I really appreciate it Smile
