Cheap starter cruise

I know some of you are interested in a DCL cruise but don't want to do the expense of a Disney Cruise until you're sure sailing is for you. We're working on a paranormal/ghost hunter cruise that will sail from New Orleans on Halloween. Five nights on the Carnival Fantasy, starting at $327 per person.

Just thought I'd throw it out so if anyone is interested send me a pm.

No, you don't have to be a ghost hunter, or even BELIEVE in it to go.

$327 for 6 nights. That sounds like a hoot. I fear though that all the ghost hunters would get mad at me indicating my disbelief constantly.

My skepticism will be tempered by the sound of the cash register.

We'll have a website up soon. www.boocruise.com

Nope, but it probably will be AFTER this cruise.

I did take a tour of the Queen Mary once in Long Beach. IT is supposed to be haunted, particularly around the indoor pool area.

So if the ship is not supposed to be haunted, why are a bunch of ghost hunters getting on board? Is it just basically like a ghost hunter convention? Or are they making stops at haunted places or something?

Really good question.

I'm extremely interested in this (I'm a big dork, yes), but stopping at 'haunted' places would be fun...

I'm not a believer in ghosts, but I think as an entertainment option, ghosthunting, ghosthunters, and such ilk are fascinating.

We are kicking off in New Orleans since it is a hotbed of this type activity, plus you can sail from there really cheaply. I anticipate that if there is any actual visiting of sites, it would probably be done pre-sailing and in NO.

The sea portion is as much a get together for information sharing as anything. One of the things we will offer is to allow the different groups represented to make presentations about findings from their groups, with evidence, etc.

We did have a call this morning from someone who actually works with the Ghost Hunters TV show. Supposedly, this guy teaches a seminar on how to "ghost hunt" and is interested in doing it as part of this event. We may offer this as a pre-sail event as well.

I know what you mean about being a dork and being interested in this sort of stuff. The nearby town of Kelly, Kentucky is famous in UFO lore for being a place where "little green men" landed in 1955, having a shootout with a local farm family. (Odd hat the family did all the shooting, the 'green men' didn't shoot back) It is probably one of the top five stories in the UFO world that followers of this cite about the existence of alien life.

On the 50th anniversary of this a few years ago, they held a day long meeting on it. I thought I'd stop by for a session or two, and ended up staying the entire day. Although I didn't buy a bit of it, it was fascinating and they had a couple of the kids from the family (now in their 60's) who hid under the bed while the alien attack was going on, speaking on the panel.

They had both sides represented. Those that don't believe it and those that did.

Why don't I buy it? Well, other than the obvious quesion of "why in HELL would aliens land in Kelly, Kentucky?" , my real reason is that the state trooper who was one of two on the scene that night has long been a friend of my family. He swears to this day that a lot of the "alien sighting" had to do with the partaking of evil spirits.

If you want to see the "serious side" of this case, check this out.

The Ghost Hunter show in England? That would be quite interesting indeed... I used to be an avid watcher--ghost hunting is pretty much historical reenactment on that show, which I find very interesting as an anglophile.

HItting some spots in NO prior to the cruise would be great. That could really set the stage for people, especially if they haven't been to NO or haven't been since Katrina hit.

"Partaking evil spirits"? Wondering what exactly that might mean... laugh

I'm not sure. I think the Ghost Hunter show is a US one.

Hey, we DO produce more bourbon here than anywhere in the country, you know!

Hopefully not being too blunt, but why is this cruise so cheap? 5 days of food & bed at $327 seems like an awfully good deal. Am I misunderstanding?

Nope, that is the price - per person based on double occupancy. I agree, it is INCREDIBLY cheap.
You tend to find very cheap cruises going from secondary markets such as New Orleans, Galveston, etc. Add to that the fact that it is a buyers market and there hasn't been a better time to commit.
Also, this is an older ship, although it has been completely redone.
But mostly, during this economic upheaval, the cruise lines are offering some unbelievable deals to just get bodies (no pun intended on a ghost cruise) in the cabins.
I have to assume that the cruise lines have a formula that they use, knowing if you are on the ship, you'll average so much in souvenirs, drinks, casino, etc., and quite possibly the cost of the cruise itself is a loss leader.

I don't want to burst anyone's bubble or anything but I'm guessing that everyone on this site has been referred to A "Big Dork" at some point. Or is it just me?

Thinking about it the park in "vacation" is Disney World. (Well Disneyland anyway)

A Cartoonist named Roy Wally (As in Roy Disney, and Wally or Walt) has a theme park in California based on his star Marty Moose (Come on..) and it's called WallyWorld. And, of course he looks like Walt.

We ARE the Griswolds, On a pilgrimage to see a mouse.

That sounds reasonable. And I think a cruise from NO would be delightful.

Hi,

I have quite possibly been called a dork, but not a big one--very few women would need to stand on tiptoe, let alone a box, to kiss me.

Even a 200% single supplement on that cruise ($654.00) would still be a bargain. The cruise portion of my 2007 "MouseFest Mega Blast", as I have called those trips, was $1,699.00. I assume that I would need to arrange my own airfare and transfers between Louis Armstrong International Airport and the pier.

This is correct. The cab ride is probably 10 or 11 miles from the airport to the French Quarter.

I took a cab ride from hell with Jack Hanna once on that route.

Was the cab ride from hell because of Jack Hanna or other external factors?

Jack and I were in line at the cab stand. We were in New Orleans for a TV programming convention. I'd met Jack before, so we were talking as we waited. Since the three of us (my wife included) were going to the same hotel, we decided to share a cab.

The cab driver was about 85 years old, and this is NOT an exaggeration. He couldn't load the luggage, couldn't hear and couldn't see. Before we left the airport loading zone, he almost ran over a lady walking across the street who had the right of way.

All the way downtown, he was weaving, pulling in front of people cutting them off, etc., and other motorists were honking their horns, flipping us off and yelling at us.

We called it the "cab ride from hell" and actually we got to be friends with Jack because of it.

To answer your original question, what you see with Jack is what you get. He is down to earth and as friendly as can be. We're not what I'd call CLOSE friends, but we still see him every year or so.

My one real celebrity friend! (besides Mickey Mouse)

What was neat about it was that that evening they had a sponsor party for people who sponsored his show 'Jack Hannas Animal Adventures'. Jack invited us to the party. It was primarily big wig sponsors, syndication people and a few TV station people.

Jack ended up at our table for most of the night. He's originally from Tennessee and said he liked having "home folks" at his party.

Not really, although some of the presenters may have video and audio of spooky stuff they'll be playing.
I expect Carnival will have a Halloween party going that first night too.

It may be next week, as I'm installing my own web server and I've run into some problems. I have about six or seven websites and I'm tired of paying to rent space.

if you have any questions, pm me and I'll try and answer them. People have really responded to this thing and we have our first presenter already. I have info on the way for him.

I think it's interesting, because you get a wide variety of people who might be interested. I could easily see skeptics having as much, or more fun, than the believers.
