Contemporary Resort--What are the tips and tricks?

We'll be staying there for the first time, so I'm wondering if you know anything fun, interesting, special, hidden, secret about it that we should check out. (Or anything you'd like to know more about if you've never been there)

Thanks!

Well this is not hidden by any means, in fact it's quite glaring and obvious, but please take time to really appreciate the Mary Blair mural in the main concourse.

Mary Blair is a Disney Legend who was known for her use of color. She worked on It's A Small World at Walt's request, and her work is also featured in the films Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland and Song of the South. The mural is one of those works of art that you may sometimes take for granted, but should really be appreciated as a Disney icon.

Otherwise, I'd say to make sure to take the walking path to Magic Kingdom at least once, rather than taking the monorail. What a treat it is to be able to walk to the MK from your resort's main lobby in less than ten minutes.

The Contempo Cafe is the new counter service there, and it is in the space previously occupied by The Concourse Steakhouse. The food there is decent; flatbread pizzas and good sandwiches being the standouts.

If you can, try to request a room in the main building (the A-frame), rather than one of the wings. And be sure to check out the construction of the new Bay Lake Towers while you're there!

Thanks for all the ideas! We do have a room in the A-frame (had to pay more for it sarcastic ), and now I'm looking forward to the Contempo Cafe. I'm def hoping to walk to the MK a couple of times, and we're really looking forward to watching Wishes from our balcony muchlove

I've always like the mural, but had no idea who it was by. Thank you for the education mickey I always like knowing when I'm seeing the work of a true Disney legend.

Bali--I think they've removed the computers, actually. Not sure why, but I guess it wasn't worth all the maintenance/effort. Plus, I've heard people were complaining about not being able to access the full internet, instead being relegated to Disney-approved sites.

Also, consider treating yourself to dinner one night at the California Grill at a time that overlaps the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom. You can walk out on the walkway on top of the hotel at that time and watch the fireworks. They pipe in the music and narration to speakers on top of the hotel. It is a wonderful experience.

California Grill's food is pretty good but its view is excellent. MT when you were there did you watch the fireworks from your room?

One year I was on that side with a Concierge Suite and had a "watch party" on my balcony. It was great. The second year I was on the other side.

Don't forget to look for the five-legged goat in the mural! You can see it pretty clearly near the top when you exit the monorail.

Here is a shot we just took, sorry it isn't the best pic, but my flash wouldn't light it up properly, so I had to play with it once we got home!

And don't forget to look for Kirk when you check in, he kind of greets people and answers questions! We loved him!

Mary Blair put the five legged goat in to show that nothing is perfect and there are flaws in humanity. We learned that on our trip while watching the WDW shows!
