Crowd Question

Hubby & I just become DVC members and we are trying to book a trip in January. My question is....do the crowds from the marathon thin out quickly? If we go down on the Monday after the marathon will there be fewer people. We don't like crowds and like a more laid back crowd.

Thanks for any advice!! I tried to find the answer but wasn't able to come up with anything. Sorry if this is a repeat subject. mickey

The crowd from the marathon isn't that bad - half of them are local - half of the rest only come for the weekend. I don't think you'll have anything to worry about.

We stayed the week after the marathon and by Tuesday, the crowds were relatively sparse. Picked up again by Thursday, though, with typical weekend crowds.

Thanks ladies! We are looking at the last week in January that goes into the beginning of February too! We are waffling back and forth but need to make a decision in the next few days! Paying around with the availability and plane tickets! mickey

January isn't too bad. You don't really notice the marathon crowds unless you are staying at a sponsored resort. Which are mainly value and moderate resorts. It is a little cold in January so make sure you pack a couple sweatshirts and long pants.

Actually, for Marathon Weekend and Princess Weekend, all resorts are considered host resorts, unlike Food and Wine Fest Half, where only certain resorts are host resorts. Now, whether runners will prefer the values and moderates for the better prices, especially since there are no room discounts for either race weekend this year, those might be more crowded, but there will be runners at every resort.

Oh okay. My boyfriend and I came in 2011 for his birthday which happened to be marathon weekend and we didn't have any issues with anything.
