Disney may go on Strike??????

Hi All,
Does anyone else heard anything about Disney is now in negotiation with their employees and that they have until Dec. 1 to settle this? I have a friend how lives in FL and that is all that is on the news so I went looking on the internet and I did find something on this but it said 10/24..and of course we leave for Disney on 12/2. Just a little nervous.......Thanks

I heard about a demonstration of Disney workers on Oct. 19th that actually held up traffic in WDW. They were protesting for higher wages. While I'm for everyone earning a decent wage, if I was on vacation and held up in traffic by cast members protesting I would be irritated. So I'm guessing this is related to that. We're supposed to be in Orlando in mid December for a dog show and were planning on going to AK to check out Pandora. If there is a strike we'll go to US & maybe SW instead. We were in WDW this past January so it won't be that big of deal. Not to sound unsympathetic but, I have never understood taking a job knowing what the pay is going to be and then complaining about it after the fact. I have never worked at Disney but I had a couple of Fraternity brothers that went to work there after college. It was common knowledge even 30 years ago that Disney did not pay well. I would have loved to work at Disney, but I wanted to make more money. There are certain occupations (not just at Disney) that just don't pay a lot especially starting out. If you are smart enough to go to college you should be smart enough to research how much you'll earn out of college & potential long term earnings. It was one of the first things I found out before I settled on my major. Sorry, I'll get off my soap box now.

wdwizbest I agree you know what the pay is when you get the job so if you don't like it don't take it. I understand that they pay $10.00 an hour after their 2014 negotiations with up to $13.00++ with overtime. But not to offend anyone am not a 'union' person. I think a long time ago there was maybe a need for unions now am not so sure...sorry again not to offend. And I know that Universal is not union so I hope they stay that way. So I have my toes and fingers crossed that all will be settled by the time I get there. We are not staying on property but we have our tickets and Mickey's Xmas ticket so we shall see. Oh boy.

I agree 100% Kathys. By the way, if they are represented by a union why are they having to protest? I mean, isn't that why they pay dues, so the union will negotiate for them?

I have no idea. I know when they agreed on the contract in 2014 (a 5 year contract)Disney representative allowed them to negotiate this year. Why the hell did they do that?
