Disney names two new ships

Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy

Bob Iger, President and CEO of The Walt Disney Company, announced the official names today at the 2009 Annual Meeting of Shareholders in Oakland, Calif.

According to Iger, "Like the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder Cruise Ships before them, the names of the two newest ships in our fleet were chosen with care to celebrate Disney's unique heritage - creating incredible worlds of fantasy where your Clients' dreams really do come true."

MT approves!

Hrm, I'd like them better if they didn't seem like synonyms! Maybe that's intended to be the charm!

No other details other than that.

Anybody notice how suddenly that Disney is becoming more people friendly? Iger makes that announcement yesterday and then appears on 'The View' this morning. (I Tivo'ed it, and will watch after lunch. I'll let you know if he said anything interesting.)

Add that along to the D23 stuff and the big convention, etc., and it seems like the mindset might be changing in Anaheim.

How so? You mean more of a focus on preserving their audience instead of pushing forward and KNOWING that people will follow?

Well put. Maybe more of the "we CARE about our fans" type mindset. I don't know, it may all be in my imagination.

With the economy the way it is and Disney being one of the remaining strong companies that relies on enteratinment and travel for their income, I think this is the most prudent course of action for them.

On the other hand, now is really the first time that Disney can capitalize on the "nostalgia" of yesteryear; the baby boomer generation is the first to remember the Disney brand as being a part of their entire lives. Maybe this is the first time a "fan club" like this could have floated.
