Disney Wonder moves west in 2011

Disney Cruise Line® has announced plans to reposition the Disney Wonder® Cruise Ship from its base in Port Canaveral, Fla., to the West Coast in 2011.

A two-year agreement, with a three-year extension option, will be considered by the Port of Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners on April 2, 2009.

I would assume this move to be permanent and will allow package deals for Disneyland visitors.

Wow! So it's not gonna be one of the new ships, eh? And LA won in the "bidding war" for the ship?

I can only guess that because the new ships are bigger, it makes sense to put one of them in the Caribbean where the business is already established.

This is great news for west coast Disney fans.

As for the port, it does look like LA won out. I was pulling for Long Beach myself, although I really don't have a reason why. I guess because I've been to both and it appeared that Long Beach was a bit closer and actually nicer, but that is probably my imagination.

Could be.

We had reservations on the first ship right after it was supposed to be delivered. We were sailing within the first two months, using our DVC points. The ship was late being delivered, and we were asked to reschedule and they gave us a 25% point bonus because of our inconvenience.

We rescheduled again, and once again the ship was delayed and they gave us ANOTHER 25% point bonus.

We ended up upgrading for our first cruise and actually went for half price (since half the points used were freebies). I'll take that deal anytime!

That's great if you're flexible, but I'm sure some people that would be devastating. Good piece of advice to make sure that if your vacation is time sensitive (time off from work or school or whatever), that you wait until the boats are for sure finished.

Something tells me that Mr. and Mrs. MT are the first to volunteer when their flights need to bump passengers... silly

Since we have no kids, we always have been. We only got accepted once though, on a flight coming back from Vegas to Nashville. We had to lay over four or five hours in Vegas, then they flew us back and gave us two round trip tickets to anywhere Southwest flew.

My kind of deal ANY day of the week!
