DIY Magic Bands

We painted up our Magic Bands tonight and I'm super proud of how they turned out!!! We've got an Incredibles, Maleficient, Buzz Lightyear, and Mike Wazowski band and the are so cute! We ended up buying a multi-surface acrylic paint and then will be doing several coats of top coat over it to try and prevent chipping and cracking. I'll let you all know in a few weeks how they hold up in the parks.

They look great, Allie! I love them all, but my favorite is the Incredibles. That was such a great use of the Mickey head!

Thanks everyone! I wish I could take the credit but that has to go solely to my husband. I told him I wanted to paint them to look like Disney characters and he came up with about 20ish designs for us to pick from and then did all the painting.

Magic Mirror those shoes are AMAZING!!! muchlove

These are fun! I'm a graphic designer by trade... & I've played with a great product that might work well for anyone wanting to try this out. Acrylic markers from Montana. They deliver great coverage and work well on flexible surfaces, and can be purchased with different sized tips from 1.5mm up to 30mm. They are even available in neons and metallic colors.

now that I think about it... a Tony Stark magic band might be in my future

I've seen lots of painted magicbands and they seem to last in the parks. I wouldn't put anything on the mickey shape like fake gems because it's hard for the touch points to read the magicbands.

Sorry if I'am hi jacking your thread, but on the subject of the bands, I've read that the sliders stay on better than the pins,or badges, whatever the term is..I also heard that if you loose a pin and you have a receipt, they will replace it.Not the pins for your lanyard..Anyone any advice on this subject.?

Ok..after a wee bit of research the pins are called bandits and are half the price of the sliders..I'am wondering if the Bandits have the same idea as the pins with the little rubber back..I was told to push the metal pin thro at an angle, that way it won't come off..I tried it and haven't lost a pin since...Anyway, for anyone who has already got these items, what is your advice.?

I had some of the bandits last year and I did lose one but i got them at the beginning of the holiday and the one i lost was in the last few days of the holiday so they lasted pretty well and I remember a few occasions where I did something and thought I'd lost one but they were still there don't know if anybody else has had different experiences?

Nope they're finished! I'm not ruining DH's paint job with any more embellishments! biggrin

We also purchased and DH lost one.... it fell off after Test Track and we never found it. He lost another one in a store but one of the CM's found it and returned it. I did OK with mine but I tried to be more aware. I think when we go back in November, I am going to get the sliders.

We uses a drop of gorilla glue/super glue on the hole prior to pushing the pin. They seem to stay stuck to my backpack!

Just wanted to come back with an update on this. We used acrylic paint and a few coats of a top coat spray and they held up great with no chipping or cracking! The one issue we encountered (which could easily have been prevented) was a couple of us tried to use spray sunscreen with the magic band on. When the sunscreen got on it, it made the bands really sticky and then when we tried to scrub it off it peeled off some of the clear top coat and a bit of the paint. Other then that though they held up awesome, just don't apply bug spray or sunscreen on your arms with the magic band on. awesome
