Do Crowds Keep You Away?

As we ramp up to the really, crazy busy time around Easter at WDW, I was thinking this morning about it: when I had my Annual Passes, NOTHING could induce me to go to the parks at certain times (i.e. the busiest.) What are your thoughts on crowds? Do you go in spite of them? Do they bother you at all? Or are you like me, and won't even go at the busiest times?

This is when some of those new-fangled apps come in handy, I suppose?

We generally plan such that we avoid the busiest times, and try to find the best combo of weather and low crowds. Late April/early May (after Spring break and Easter) and late September are our favorite times, and then early December for Christmas stuffs before the holiday mess.

I think that for me, having to travel across the country to visit WDW..I do take crowds (and weather) into consideration. I want to be able to enjoy my trip.
But.. if I were right there, like I am with Disneyland, I just go when I want to go. Because I dont really get on rides much anyway.

I hate crowds just like my husband does so it's great that we go in November when the crowds are low. I'm glad I'm not a teacher cause between the weather and the crowds I don't think I could stand to go over the summer

Yeah the crowds have alot to do with when we go, also the heat! Although sometimes, you just can't get away from either one of them. This last Jan trip we did, it was rather packed the first few days, and didn'r really expect that. Getting to the point that most people know when the crowds are and are going for the low times, and that makes them more crowded then.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who isn't a big fan of crowds! I was starting to feel like a misanthrope Smile I'm always astounded at people who will go on c-rrrrraaazzzy days like July 4! I mean, it would be so cool, but I am just not wanting to fight with wall to wall people (not to mention sweltering heat.)

When you do find crowds, how do you adjust for them? Up earlier? Stay later? Concentrate on an app or Touring Plan, or use more ADRs and fast passes? Or do you just whine like I do? Smile

Lizzy it's a good thing I don't drink, otherwise I probably would do a variation of that and go to the France pavilion and Wine!!. Smile but then we never go when it's crowded.

The problem with my job is that I never get to go to Disney during the off season. It kills me...however, I do tend to aviod really crowded times (like Christmas and Easter) and go in early summer when the temps are better and the crowds are lower.

I just hate this for you, Bella! Come be a virtual teacher in FL! The programs are growing by leaps and bounds, and I have to assume the work is more flexible Smile

Usually, yes.

I love riding Rock 'n Roller Coaster with big crows, though...Standing in line, listening to Aerosmith (one of my fav bands), making small talk...Love it.

I agree, Robin. They don't seem to bother some, and I guess people figure out ways around them with fast passes, apps, and such...but I just hate spending that $$ to stand in line.

Thats what I dont get. I understand if thats the only time you could go. But for anyone who is out of state and has to basically travel... unless you truly want the super hot weather and skin cancer... I know I dont want to wait in line for a couple hours in 95-105 degree weather... lol

If I'm going to WDW I try to avoid peak season if at all possible. On the plus side it gives me time to take more pictures. At DLR I just go whenever I'm back in Cali visiting my family. I could never go to California and NOT go to DLR. My family lives too close.

I have never been to DLR but I'd really like to go! I would love to eat at Napa Rose. Have you dined there, Raven?

I watched Samantha Brown eat there once..(on the tv) and I drooled the entire time. That place looks amazing.

It's seems like it would be similar to California Grill. I saw a pic of the patio at Napa Rose, and I've wanted to go there ever since and drink wine by the fire pit! (It would probably be cheaper to buy a little fireplace and a bottle of wine for my house, eh?) Smile

I use a guest assitance card so dontreally have to worry about the queues for rides, but people everywhere..... yuk, queueing for restrooms, queueing for a drink, queueing for lunch, queueing for a show..... not my idea of fun at all. This year we are going to be away for half term in the UK which is when a lot of families go over there and I'm already worried :S

We've always found that crowds make a huge difference for our enjoyment. Even when we don't have to wait in lines (like when we have fastpasses) it still just wears on us for so many people to be around.

We would rather go during the value season. But, we will go anytime we can. We do the vacation differently though based on how crowded it is. During busy times we make sure we use ADR's for almost every meal. We also prepare ourselves before we get there that it will be hot and it will be crowded.

I think this is soo key, Scrappy! I can handle just about anything - crowds, heat, screaming kids, WalMart LOL - if I just mentally prepare.
