Finally Bought my New Canon G15 Camera!

Those of you who read my Alaska trip report will remember my camera took a plunge and is now in the depths of the ocean. After much research I fell in love with the Canon G15. Most of my camera's have been Canon and there were several things that were important to me during my search. I needed it to be portable enough to put in my purse (leaving out most SLR's) and light enough to carry during a day at Disney, I wanted the cost under $500, needed adequate low light capability, RAW (thanks Ken), continuous shooting mode and a decent macro. I'd been continuously monitoring the prices which ranged from around $500 to the cheapest I could find it $427. I walked into Best Buy yesterday and they had it on store clearance for $389. SOLD! I added an extra battery and three 8gb Sandisk High Performance SDHC memory card with a class 10 rating (normal $25 but she sold them to me for $10 each!) and still kept the total cost under $500. I have only had a small amount of time today to play with it on auto settings but here are some pictures I snapped.

Ooh that's taking great photos!

Great pics!! Is the camera easy to use? And a heck of a deal. Now I'm tempted to wander in to Best Buy to see if there are any deals. The SL1 was REALLY amateur friendly, is the G15??

Also, I have your cat's long lost (and well fed) twin....

rolling ohhhh!! Not a happy jester cat!!

I think the camera is easy to use on auto.....but I have had Canon's for so long I am used to their controls
I need to find time to work on the manual features.

that cat pic with the costume is HILARIOUS. I have one that would probably sit there and let me do that, but the other one, no way. They are already mad enough at me as it is for taking off for Disney so much and leaving them at home. biggrin

Hi MM - resurrecting this thread to see how you like the camera after a few months now. Are you still loving it? I have GOT to find a camera that is the right size/weight to carry around in the parks but still take great pics - emphasis on toddler face pics! silly

One of the best things about the G15 is that it has a much larger sensor than is found in a typical point and shoot. This definitely helps when trying to capture images of fast moving subjects like toddlers! mickey

I bought the G15 earlier this year. I haven't had much chance to use it ( or learn how to use it laugh ) but I can't wait to test it out at WDW in October awesome

My biggest frustration with cameras is the lag time between shots. You're right, Ken, toddlers not only move fast but their "smile for the camera" lasts seconds and then they're looking elsewhere. mickey

The lag time was my problem too so I bought a Canon Rebel T3. I found it to be way too big and bulky and just too much camera for me Puzzled

I love camera talk biggrin

and YES !

I'm still loving my camera ... I haven't taken "quick" succession shots
so I can't comment on lag time at this point..maybe I can get the
German Shepherd to run her figure 8's in the back yard and give it a try!

I have taken a few spring shots around the house- so I need to get them
uploaded and post them.... but the size is a good middle ground for me
when traveling ....

We have an Ornamental Plum tree in the front yard. Last year, both the plum tree and the neighboring Satin Shadow Linden Tree had Robin's make their nest in them. They had pretty bouncy baby birds and eventually all flew away. We left the nests in the trees thru the winter..and I was surprised they held up to still be there this spring.

All Spring I've watched them, but no one has come back to make use of them. I had just told Amy I was going to take them out of the trees (they are on pretty low branches) and maybe next year they would build anew. She asked me to wait awhile longer to make sure. I figured it was late enough now it would be of no use but I left them.

Two days later I'm out getting ready to mow and I look up in the Plum Tree, still itching to take the nests out of the tree, when I see a morning dove all nestled on top of it! So now each day, I venture out and talk to her, letting her know we are eager to see her babies. I finally got around to getting the camera out and snapped a few pictures (on zoom) so as to not get too close. I thought I'd add them to this post...

They would LOVE it if they could get to it! LOL
The kitties are stay inside only kitties, but they have a seat in the front dining room window and can see the tree very well. Whenever a bird flies by the kitties do the duck, peak, hide beneath the window sill, peak back again, then back up on the stool routine laugh

Magic Mirror...I can imagine it. That is too funny. You have given me (or should I say your kitties) my first laugh of the day. Thanks.
