Florida Zipline

I think we talked about the zipline in another thread, but here is a press release I received from them this morning.
___________

Zipline Adventure for your Orlando Vacation
St. Cloud, FL â" June 4, 2009
Vacationers heading to Orlando, Florida this summer for theme-park fun should also brace themselves for a whole new world of eco-tourism adventure. Florida EcoSafaris has opened the NEW Zipline Safari, an exhilarating journey through the treetops of the Forever Florida wildlife conservation area. The fully-guided adventure takes guest through 7 different ziplines, nine observation platforms and two bouncing sky bridges as it winds through some of Floridaâs natural ecosystems. Located less than one hour outside of Orlando, Kissimmee and Florida's Space Coast, the Zipline Safari is an easy drive for visitors but the experience feels like you're a world away.
Your journey begins with an off-road transport through Forever Florida on a 12 passenger safari coach. The vehicles are elevated 5 feet off the ground for a great view of of everything along the way including frequent sightings of alligators, great blue herons and wild turkeys. As your eco-safari passes through the Crescent J Ranch you get an up-close view of Florida's unique cracker horses and Spanish colonial cattle, direct descendents of those brought over by Spanish settlers in the 1500s then left to roam wild for hundreds of years. Heading into the conservation lands, the experience takes on a very different feel. The peace and quiet of being in the middle of Forever Florida's 4700 acres begins to set in. This is wild Florida, the way it was meant to be.
After suiting up in full zipline gear with your expert guides, it's time to take to the trees. By the time you reach 50 feet up on the first platform, the beauty of the pine flatwoods has set in, but so has the adrenaline. That first step off is a big one but your guides are there with you throughout the journey to see to your safety. Reaching a maximum height of 55 feet and speeds up to 25 miles per hour, the two hour adventure includes 7 different ziplines passing through some of Forever Florida's nine different ecosystems. The most popular zip "Slough Run" is sure to surprise as summer brings water flowing back through this area of forested wetland.
Guests looking to stay a little closer to the ground can enjoy a relaxing trip through Forever Florida on the all-ages Coach Safari or venture out on a guided Horseback Safari. Or, just sit back and relax in a rocking chair at the beautiful Forever Florida Visitor Center and Cypress Restaurant. Best of all, as true eco-tourism, 30% of revenues from the Zipline Safari, Coach Safari and Horseback Safari are donated to the Allen Broussard Conservancy, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and protecting natural Florida.
Tickets for the new Zipline Safari are $85 for Adults and children ages 10 and up who meet the minimum weight requirement of 70 lbs. One, two and three-hour Horseback Safaris are available for $40, $60, and $80 respectively. The two-hour Coach Safari is $28 for adults and $22 for children ages 6 to 12 with no charge for children 5 and under. Florida EcoSafaris is located at 4755 N. Kenansville Rd in St. Cloud, Florida, one hour southeast of Orlando. Take US 192 to Holopaw, then south on SR 441 for 7.5 miles. Advance reservations are required and can be made by calling toll free, 866-85-4EVER. For additional information, visit www.FloridaEcoSafaris.com <http://www.floridaecosafaris.com/> .

I was watching a TV show the other day where they had a HUGE zipline in Nevada that looked like a ton of fun. On the shows some of the fat guys had to wear parachutes behind them so they wouldn't go down too fast. I'm really interested in ZipLines. clapping

Of course I should probably bring my parachute.

Ha! Haven't seen that episode.

I did a ropes course/zipline in Europe once--being up that high was NOT fun, but the zipline was a blast.

I'm not big on heights, but this thing is only 25 feet up. I've rappelled (sp) off a tower higher than that.

As for the Roloff's, if you've watched the show you know that Matt is always involved in some scheme or another. They had ridden a zipline on Maui and when he got home he decided to build his own. Next thing you know, the people who make all the hardware were at Roloff farms and "VOILA!", one zip line built and ready for action!

We went to hear Matt, Zach and Molly speak down at Paducah last year. Was very enjoyable!

The zipline sounds like fun and not too far to go for a quick day trip. Thanks for the info, MouseTraveler.

Also, I watched the show for a while--I wonder how much it costs to build a zipline...

I don't know, but when I got my hair cut yesterday, I was telling the lady that cuts it about the zipline. (She's going to WDW this fall for a big trip.)

Turns out she's got one at her house. They have an acre and they built a zip line that runs diagonally from one corner to another.

I'll ask her about the costs next time I talk to her.

I talked to my hair gal, and she said her husband basically MADE their zip line from some mountain climbing gear and stuff he got at the hardware store.

You can find kits all over the net though, and they appear to be pretty cheap.

Looks like you can get in to a zip line for a few hundred bucks.

I would have zero confidence in a zip line I made myself.

I'm with you. I want my zipline built by professionals.

I suspect they make the connectors so that they basically lock that cable down tight as a drum. If you had the right things to anchor to on each end I wouldn't see it being a big deal.

Especially since most home ziplines aren't up that high anyway.

Having said that, one of those websites had pricing where you could hire the company to come in and set it up for you.

So have you already told Mrs. MT that she's getting a zipline for her birthday? clapping
