Has anyone camped at Fort Wilderness?

I am constantly trying to find ways to make our Disney trips more affordable and it came to me....Why not camp there. We have stayed at the cabins and loved it but sadly they have become too expensive for our budget. I was hoping that perhaps someone who has had some experience with the campground might have some advice, tips and stories of what it is like.

I have not but have been dreaming of purchasing a camper so DH and I could camp there. We are tent campers for now and I really enjoy that.. but I think a camper would be a must if we were to camp at Disney! Please we have a tiny dog that would LOVE to be able to come and stay with us and we could only do that at Fort Wilderness in a camper... so we really need to get one. Smile

We are in the same boat. Our dogs would love to come with us but we need a camper to do so. I think a lot of people bring there dogs with them. We would often see dogs being walked daily and one morning we discovered a special trail just for walking your dog. Fort Wilderness campground really does accomodate the dog owner with special areas to camp and an offlease park. We are currently looking for a suitable camper so we can go in February and bring our fur kids with us.

I camped there frequently as a child and really loved it, I have truly magical memories. But it's been at least 25 years so I doubt any information I have is current. We have one trip that our family calls the "critter city" trip, as you do indeed run into wildlife when camping at Disney so be prepared for that!

We camped there about 30 times. It is NOT inexpensive any more. Everything is relitive. If you are used to paying over a couple of hundred dollars per night for rooming at Disney then it might not so seem expensive. However Jan and I found it to be much less costley to stay at a value resort,at Fl. resident rates. It is, though, a very nice place to camp with kids.

We camped here from the time I was 8 yrs old till 13 yrs old. My parents had a pop-up camper. It was great! The CLEANEST campground ever!!!!!! Hey, it's Disney- could there be any doubt? So much activities to do there. Wonderful place for families. Back then (80's) it was $10 or $15 a day to rent out a spot. I'm sure it's more now.

Yes it is way more expensive now but I did some research and find it cheaper than the value resorts. Depending on when we would go during the year we can save a considerable amount of money.
Thanks Joe for your tip. We are from Canada and sometimes we get a discount but I figure the camping angle will keep us at our beloved Fort Wilderness campground (our favourite place to be!!!)

I've always wanted to stay here, but I don't come from camping folk Smile Maybe the cabins would be a good choice for us?

The cabins are fantastic....too pricey for us now but we really loved them. It is just the whole feel of Fort Wilderness and when you stay in the cabins it is like you are in the wilderness. It is hard to explain but we feel most at home there.

I used to camp there before I bought into DVC.
That was years ago and we used to get an airline discount so it was really cheap.
Unfortunately I've not been back since DVC and owning a dog.
Now I've got cats and they don't do Disney. eek
