Hi from London Ontario

Hi everyone. I have been reading the forums and posts, and have really enjoyed the tips and insights. We have been to Disney several times, but always with our son. Now he is 30, we are in our early sixties, and we are returning for a "grown-up" trip in May. We have friends who think we are crazy to want to go "at our age", but we are getting really excited. After reading all the raves reviews, we will definitely be trying the Dole Whip. It's hard to believe, but after all those trips, we had never discovered those! We will finally get a chance to explore the pavilions at Epcot, and just generally enjoy ourselves. It's nice to find a group of grown-ups who are as enthusiastic about Disney as you all are!

Welcome to the boards! So glad you are here!!

I'm excited for your trip! Our son is young, but I can't wait until we are older to take adult trips! You two are going to have so much fun just taking your time and exploring!

Where are you staying? Any restaurants you're really looking to try? And enjoy that Dole Whip!

We are staying at Port Orleans Riverside. We have stayed there twice in the past, when it was still called Dixie Landings. We also stayed at the All-Star Music, which was pretty OK too. I like the grounds at Riverside though. Other than the Dole whip, we have no plans for meals. This will be a "do what you want when you want" trip - hooray!

Thanks guys. Our son is extremely jealous that we are going without him. He wants to go back too, but not with his parents this time! It will be nice to take our time, ride only what we want to, and relax by the pool occasionally.

other than air tickets and hotel, NOTHING is planned! We have been on tours, planned vacations, etc. for the past few years, and I just wanted a holiday where we decide what to do as we go along. Luckily, DH loves Disney, and was onboard the minute I mentioned going. We have our favourite rides, shows, etc., but there is a lot of new stuff we haven't seen, so it will still be fresh and exciting.

I've heard conflicting things about the refurbished Star Tours. Does anyone know how it compares to the old one? I know that one was kind of lame, but I get motion sickness, so it was good for me. My son and I would ride it umpteen times while DH rode Tower of Terror. That's one I won't ride ever!

Are you planning on doing any dining reservations? Or just eating where the mood strikes you?

Finngirl , welcome , welcome. Glad you took the plunge and jumped in here. We are in our 50's and love going to Disney! Let 'em think your crazy. That's less people coming to fill the parks up! Your definitely braver then us though, not making any ADR's at all. Let me know when your going down and I'll add you to the "Who going to Disney" thread. We will be there in May too!

Hello Finngirl, welcome
I lived in Chatham, Ontario for approximately 4 years, until 2005 when I returned to my native California. My husband and I will also be staying at Port Orleans - Riverside but not until early September. I hope you and your hubby have a wonderful, relaxing time!

We haven't ridden the new Star Tours yet (but we will in 15 days or so! EeeeEeE!) so I can't tell you how the refurb compares personally. But here's a fairly informative article about it if you haven't seen already:

http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/guides/mgm/st-startours.htm

My understanding is that the refurb accomplished 2 major things: update the ride and make it a little more modern, and add in the multiple experience options so you can have a different ride each time.

I agree, the old version was kinda corny and outdated but still fun and we always did it. I'm looking forward to testing out the new version!

We really don't want to have dinner reservations, and then HAVE to be somewhere at a particular time. Even if we end up snacking and grabbing less-than-healthy stuff, we figure no one died of malnutrition in a week! We are looking forward to walking the boardwalk one evening, and maybe having dinner there. If that's not possible, no big deal. It's not bravery to go with no plans, just contrary. I'm happy with a burger or something, and the hubby loves anything with seafood, so there should be plenty of options for us. We didn't plan meals on our other trips either, and everything worked out fine.

Thanks for the link. It sounds like it's even more of a fun ride - we will make sure to do it at least once. My son would never forgive me if we skipped this one!

Well, I'm obviously late to the party but welcome Finngirl!!

How exciting to go back after all these years! Things have changed over the years but you will still have a fantastic time! It has gotten harder to just walk into a table service restaurant and get a seat, but at the same time counter service has become so much better! I'm positive you won't starve even without a game plan.

In general, I'm an obsessive planner, but this year the universe has sort of been forcing me to relax and play it by ear! My kids are in their teens and I love going with just my husband so much. The whole trip has a different feeling and it's so wonderful to hang out and do what we want.

Thanks Kristen. My husband and I have been on a few trips now without kids, and it's wonderful! (Don't tell the kids that). The pace is less frantic, and we are both pretty flexible about meals, where to go, etc. For this trip we are going with no expectations, other than to enjoy ourselves. We are determined to not let late buses, screaming kids, line jumpers, etc. bother us at all. As long as those aren't OUR screaming kids, it's all good.

I picked up our package today, so now the anticipation builds. I just need to dig some summer clothes out of the back of the closet - then I will really start being excited. We went to Disneyland several times back in the sixties (now you know how ancient I am!), and I think I am just as excited now as I was then.

Hi neighbour! I'm glad to hear you love going without the kids. We've had so many people tell us we are crazy for going on an adult only Disney trip. It's our 33rd wedding anniversary a couple of days before we go, and we just thought we would do something fun to celebrate.

That's if we get off the ground - damn that Air Canada and their union problems! We have 3 weeks to go - hopefully they get everything straightened out by then.

Our friends thought we were crazy as well and at the Detroit crossing so do those working the boarder. They often snicker and say you expect us to believe you two are going to Disney World?? Of course the reservation booklet Disney sends us comes in handy to prove we are actually going there. We drive instead of flying as I don't care for all the security measures that flying has and I want to tell you it is an amazing adventure. Especially through the mountains. Absolutely gorgous!!!! There is sooooo much to do as adults and you can go on your own time...I love it. Each time we go we set a challenge for ourselves. Last time it was to get a picture of us in front of all the icons. In October I think we will try and get pictures with villans... I am going to try the cupcake crawl or start it. I figure each time I go I will try two or three.

I'm with you about all the security hassles! There's nothing like a full body scan to start your holiday off with a bang! We don't drive it because I am the only driver - DH has medical issues, so he doesn't drive. It's a long trip if you can't switch off. I'd like to do the drive someday though when we aren't on a schedule, and can just meander down. We did that years ago through Pennsylvania - no timetable, just relaxing, seeing the caves, etc. Our son was 10 then, and he still counts that as one of his favourite trips.

We're expecting some raised eyebrows with customs at both ends - when they see all this grey hair, they will be questioning our decision to go to Disney for sure. I just tell people I'm only 35 in my head, and they can ignore the outside wrapping.

My goal this trip is to see all the countries' pavilions at Epcot. Each trip, we've seen a bit, but there never seemed enough time to do them all. We have the Park Hopper Pass, so we figure to return to Epcot when we are fed up with other parks. I hope it's still like it used to be - no matter how busy it was, it didn't SEEM as busy. Plus there are lots of places to sit down there for a while, and I'm sure we will find every one of them!
