Hold On There Little Doggy..

Howdy Partners..Old King Fergus here...You know I think the first time I ever had a stateside Hot Dog was in the summer of 1972..I was in New York for my holidays, still only 19 years old, and Alice Cooper was celebrating " Schools Out "and me and my best buddy stopped at this Hot Dog vender..We asked for two dogs and the dude says " You want them fully loaded ?" eek Whit!!!...Anyway they were huge and messy, but sooooooo good...Now to my question of the day..Not where is your favourite dog joint in WDW, but what is your favourite topping..Mine used to be Chilli & Cheese, but I now love slow pulled pork with slaw and a BBQ sauce...Hit me with your favourites..P.S....By the way, my most awesomeness Hot Dog was from an establishment in Los Angeles called Pinks..WOW.. eek

Pinks is crazy famous for their dogs!

I like a Chicago style dog, but they don't make them right in Disney so I usually go with chili and cheese.

Just ketchup and some onion for me. Can't order it like that in Chicago land, and not get at least some terrible stares.

Chicago-style hot dogs are great. The only place we can get them around here is at the Sonic.

I also like the chili dogs they sell in this part of Pennsylvania, loaded with a mildly seasoned bean-free meat sauce, mustard, and lots of onions.

In Rhode Island they have something called a "New York System" hot dog, topped with a meat sauce I wouldn't call chili, seasoned with garlic powder, chili powder, and allspice, according to a recipe I found online. They're really good.

And I also like a good corn dog, like they have at the Nathan's stand in Hersheypark's Boardwalk section. When we're at WDW in April we'll be getting the corn dog nuggets at Casey's, which hubby says are just as good.

To celebrate the Olympics, I like to cook recipes from all over the world every day during the games. This weekend I'm going to make a Norwegian street-food dish called "Polser og Lompe." It involves a hot dog, wrapped in a kind of potato tortilla called "lompe," and topped with some kind of sauce (we'll be using mustard) and French fried onion rings, the kind that come in a can. Sounded interesting, so it made it onto the Olympics menu. But since we haven't had it yet I can't vouch for how good it is.

Edited to add a photo of the Casey's corn dog nuggets hubby got on his solo trip last year.

I love a good Chicago dog but, like Kristen said, they're not made correctly in Disney. I can't wait to try the mac & cheese with truffle oil dog when we're there in September! clapping

My hubs loves Chicago style dogs....and believe it or not....he says Steak N Shake makes a really good one.

Slaw is my favorite topping overall. One of my favorite hot dogs everrrrrr is actually at Turner Field (the Atlanta Braves stadium), where they make a "Georgia dog" that's topped with slaw and a sweet onion relish and it is amazing. And there's a couple of really good places around here that make excellent slaw dogs with a super sweet slaw and it's really delicious.

But at Disney I opted for the mac & cheese with truffle oil hot dog because the one with slaw also had bbq and that's almost too much meat for me. I also don't really care for chili on my hot dogs. yuck

For hot dogs, I believe less is more. So for me, it's ketchup and nothing else. (Purists will say mustard and nothing else but I'll enjoy however I want!). I prefer corn dogs much more than regular hot dogs. There's just something about the batter covered dog that give more flavor than a regular bun, at least for me. Other than that, in terms of toppings, I like BBQ sauce and pulled pork in general so maybe the slaw dog at Casey's Corner will work. (Haven't tried but maybe I should...) Hot dog places are pretty hard to find in my neck of the woods shockingly. I can't seem to find any close by. One place I desperately want to eat at is the original Nathan's Coney Island hot dog stand in New York!

The city I live in is only 'famous' for our hot dog restaurant 'Coney Island', and it really is the best. Steamed bun, dog, mustard, cheese, coney meat sauce, and onions... Nothing else quite compares that I've ever had. My stomach is rumbling just thinking about it...

I like sauerkraut on my hotdog and if none is available Heinz ketchup and a slice of American cheese. It has to be Heinz ketchup since I only 25 miles south of Pittsburgh, PA.

Sometimes I go for chili and cheese and other times just the regular old mustard, relish and onions.
What exactly is Truffle oil?

I'm near Coney Island, love to visit there in the Summer, and love a good loaded dog! However, in the parks, I usually resist the temptation. We're crazy riders and have been known to do Everest and TTerror two or three times in a row ... Which doesn't mix with loaded hotdogs! laugh

I'm usually a chili and mustard gal, but depending on what mood I'm in, sometimes I like to switch it up.

Casey's is where I go for hotdogs in WDW. I prefer their corn dog nuggets because the hotdogs come with too much on top and are to messy.
