How to get from Orlando to Miami?

For our honeymoon, we need to get from Disney World to Miami for our cruise. We'll be flying down to Fla so don't have a car there. What's the easiest/least expensive way to do this? Rent? Take a limousine/taxi?

Since this is our honeymoon we'd like something a little better than a bus, but if we must, we must...

I hereby veto the bus on the honeymoon!

If it were me I'd probably fly Southwest. If you book now you can probably get MCO to Ft. Lauderdale (which is basically Miami metro) for like $49/ea one way, which is probably comparable to the bus ticket and WAYYYYYY nicer.

Depends too on how much time you've got. If you are going straight to the cruise from Disney, then I agree that I'd fly Southwest to Lauderdale and get a shuttle to the ship.

Otherwise, I'd consider renting a car in Orlando, then driving to Miami Intl where you can drop off the car and pick up a Carnival bus to the ship.

No wrong answer here! (except for taking the bus from Orlando to Miami!! yay yay yay )

I wasn't fond of the bus idea myself. I'll definitely look into the flight! Thank you!

Disney makes it SO easy with the Magical Express! Keep us posted.

Sad I was REALLY hoping for a limo service and now you have all convinced him to do another flight.

I like Southwest and all...but I wanted something nicer. And not have to be there 2 hours early...when we could drive there in the three hours.

This has been my least favorite part of planning

Well the key is NOT bus. A limo service might be competitive and it is your honeymoon! I vote for the limo!

You might check out these guys. They have travel vans and town cars and seem to specialize in Orlando to Miami although I can't make heads nor tails of their pricing structure.

Do a search on 'orlando to miami shuttle' and theres all kinds of stuff available. Even the busses look nice!! awesome

Wow...that site is in...English and Spanish in the same sentences! That is interesting. I will check out the link, it looks like it might be the same price as the flight.

The flight is reasonable, I just am very anti airport.

For the record, I prefer to not take a flight also if we can find a reasonably priced method of ground transportation!

I'm pretty sure that's the official language of Florida. Spanglish!

What? You're not proficient in Spanglish? laugh

I have no input here on how to get from Orl to Mia (I'd probably do the flight or rent a car), but wanted to say good luck! That seems to be something that should be out there...

You still didn't tell us though, what is the timetable for getting from Orlando to Miami?

Are you leaving the day of the cruise to get down there or the day before. Makes a BIG difference in what I'd do.

I think the timeline is same day:

It'll be the same day. Our cruise leaves I think at 4 in the afternoon, so we'll be heading down the morning we leave.

They do rent cars from Disney World, right? That's another possibility I suppose, but I'd rather not have to drive when I don't really know where I'm going. I've been far too reliant on my GPS for those trips since I got it, and we obviously won't have it with us for this!

There is a rental car office over by the car care center as you leave the Magic Kingdom.

I'd urge you to get to the ship early though, just to have the extra exploration time. You can usually get on board by noon or so.

As for the GPS, I have one on my phone, but I took my portable Garmin with me last summer when we went to WDW and then flew to Key West. Best move ever. I will never again take a vacation without packing it. We actually drove from Key West up to Ft Lauderdale to catch a flight back and I really enjoyed having it.

We also used my hand held in walking around Key West. I could put in a restaurant name and it would walk us right to the place.

Love those GPS's!

As it is we're packing for two weeks - I doubt we'd have room for the GPS. I've been on cruises before so know we need to get there a bit early.

All this talking about the trip is making me that much more excited!

That's why I think Disney should give a stipend to all the Disney boards. All this talking about Disney always makes me crave a trip that much sooner.

Update: our travel agent looked at Mears and it was something like 500 dollars for the trip! That's not happening, for sure. Maybe renting a car is the easiest...

But for what?

Sounds like limo prices to me and thats about right. You'd have a limo tied up for 7 or 8 hours.

Well...a Mears sedan will cost you $90 one way to get from MCO to Disney World; I could see a bus costing $250 per person from Orlando to Miami...

Flight's looking better and better eek

Very true. I'd suggest booking the first flight out; those are the least likely to be delayed--especially in August when thunderstorms can often delay afternoon flights.

We'd have to go early in the morning anyway for that since the cruise boards at 11 (just talked to the travel agent today)

Hrm, does that really even leave you with the option of driving?
