J & L's Yum! Yum! Turkey Burgers

No seriously - they're AMAZING.

DH came up with this recipe (well, I think he did. I hope he didn't plaigiarize it.)

Really killer. Give it a try! I like to serve them on Toufayin Oat Bran Pitas. Make mini burgers, and a couple tuck into half of a pita nicely.

2 1/2 pounds ground turkey or turkey breast
1 t dried oregano
1/2 cup fresh basil (sub a couple of tablespoons of dried if you like)
4 garlic cloves, pressed or minced
1 t fennel seeds, crushed or ground
2 tsp Cajun spice (we use Tony Chachere's)
1/2 cup bread crumbs OR oats (you can grind them in the food processor)
2 T olive oil
2 T balsamic vinegar
1 egg
salt and pepper to taste

Combine all ingredients and chill for 30 mins. Form into patties and grill or saute until done. (We usually saute on top of the stove for about 5 minutes per side, then finish in a 375 degree F oven for 15 minutes, but this will vary depending on thickness and size of your burgers. Burgers are done when they reach an internal temp of 165 F, using a meat themometer. Top with whatever you like! We trim with the usual veggies - fresh tomato, lettuce, and raw onion - but grilled onion and mushrooms are wonderful, too.

Makes, well, a bunch!

(This recipe is also great for meatballs, too. I usally add a pkg of frozen chopped spinach to it when making meatballs - and tell the kiddoes that the spinach leaves are herbs Laughing out loud)
