January/February in the World

Okay, so looking over the Who is going in 2016 thread, I see a lot of experienced travelers going. I need help! A friend of mine just got me all worked up about larger travel groups going those 2 months (international, dance and cheer....). Is this as bad as she says? All the crowd calendars indicated it was a great time to travel. I started googling about the topic, but it is just making me crazier than I already am.

I think all the stress with my mom has made me even more high-strung than usual. yuck So did I pick alright dates? Or did I make a giant mistake? I am traveling 1/30-2/5 and staying at Pop if that makes any difference.

We've been to WDW 4 times in January and are headed back this January. We like to travel at that time due to lower crowds and to get away from the winter.

You will find several tour groups, mostly from South America as it's their summer time. It's not a huge concern, you just learn to go the other way if you run into them. It's the same for the cheerleaders - we just do our best to avoid them. We've never found it too distracting. They do tend to stay at the Value and Moderate resorts, but I do believe Disney tries to keep them away from the main areas. We did ask to move when we stayed at POR a few years ago due to a tour group, and the resort was more than accommodating.

Weather can also be a little cool, but we've also had shorts weather too. We're from southern Ontario and used to all weather and I find you basically have to pack for spring, summer and fall.

Even with all this, we still enjoy going at this time of year and I'm sure you won't regret it. biggrin

We love those winter month at WDW, the weather beach is clear and comfortable (low humidity) and the crowds/line are reasonable.

I am sure you will have a great time and will not be disappointed stars, have a wonderful time mickey

We ave been going in January since the early 80's. Love that time of year, but yes you can run into tour groups and and cheerleader squads and such and as Jan said, you learn to go the other way. Sometimes it is a sea of colored shirts and chanting kids and other times there are hardly any.

Just like when its hot, you have to make the best of it.

I agree with every one else. In addition, you probably won't have to worry too much about afternoon thunderstorms. Good advice about the tour groups. We go the opposite direction when we see the flags. They have a tendency to stay at the All Star Resorts. Personally I love Pop Century and have stayed there quite a few times before we joined DVC. Have fun! Please bring us up to date on your mother's progress.
