Leashes on kids?

I see these all the time in the parks. Does anyone else think they're kind of weird? Or am I just naive about how hard it is to keep track of a kid that age?

These generally creep me out, but, I guess, better to keep your kid on a leash than have them ending up at the lost child center Sad

I had one that went around my wrist when I was younger. I never wore it in a theme park though- only when we were places with lots of cars and traffic b/c I had a tendancy to go for a sprint occaisionally. It didn't hurt or anything.

We used it with our kids when they were really little. They hated to be in the stroller all day, and needed to burn off some energy, but we didn't want them to be getting in the way of other people, or running off when we weren't looking. We also put the fear of God into them about getting lost, I don't think they would have dared to run off, but better safe than sorry.

Do you recall at what ages you used it?
