Medieval Times

We have one of these locally and I'm wondering if its worth checking out. All the other "reviews" I've seen are positive, but tend to be unclear what they're postiive about. There's a show, that noone tells me why is worth seeing, and the food's main attribute appears to be 'you get to eat with your hands'. Anyone have details on why/why not to check this place out?

I've never been to a Medieval Times, but I've never actually been that attracted to it. Lots of people eating bad food with their hands while watching fights to the death? No thanks.

Seems to me you answered your own question!

To be clear, lest I be lumped in with all the "hand eating haters" here, I was indicating that this would be a PRO not a CON.

I've been to a Medieval Times in California and it is not recommended. It was only fun because I was in a massive group. If you're only going with a couple of people, it is a total waste of time. The show is sub-par, the facilities are old and tacky, and the food is greasy and gross.

Not recommended.

I suspect they're big with kids.

They're big with groups that don't know better.

That's likely the story.

I enjoyed Medieval Times, myself. The show was a lot of fun. Basically, you're in attendance at a big festival the King is putting on. Of course they show off the king's falconer and that was pretty cool watching the bird swoop around. They also have some other demonstrations of the knights' skills (the joust through the ring thing, etc). But then, of course, a bad guy comes along and all the knights pledge to the king that they'll rid the kingdom of him. You're sitting in a section dedicated to a certain knight and you pull for him to win. Of course the good guys win in the end and everything's fine. All the while during the show you're eating your dinner (baked chicken and sliced potatoes and no, not a utensil in sight).

In Orlando they also have the medieval village next to the castle. I really enjoyed that. I would like to have taken more time and talked more to the villages "inhabitants" but my kids weren't interested in that kind of thing. I may have to go back one day and do it without them because I'd love to learn more about that.

Hope that helps some.

Glad to finally hear someone stand up for Medieval Times. Is the quality of the food any good?

Thanks, HM. The village does sound interesting. Is that like a "Williamsburg" thing where everyone's in character?

I had no idea they had a Medieval village there. That actually sounds kind of fun.

We don't have "multiquote" capabilities on here, do we? Or maybe I just haven't found it yet?

Brad, I don't remember the food as being bad, but I'm a rather large lady so you can tell I don't pass up much food Wink Actually the first time I went they let you have all the free wine you wanted so I don't remember much about the food at all. The 2nd time, though, the free wine had stopped. LOL

bali, haven't been to Williamsburg but yet, a thing where everyone's in character. I remember them stepping out of character sometimes to discuss the historical significance of something (like the book they had there that was mid 15th century or something) so it wasn't "perfect". But it was pretty good.

dsoup, I don't think all of the MT locations have the village but the one in Orlando/Kissimmee does.

The only way to do "multi-quote" right now is manually (copy and paste the text and then add the BB tags). One of the many things I should be improving. I'm still basking from adding the "Subscribed" feature.

Free wine would have been a selling point on it's own! Nobody ever mentioned THAT! laugh

I am almost positive that the MT in Dallas does not have any cool village around it.

I can do that... just have to figure out the date format. Looks like it might be a julian date kind of thing. Urg!

Yep, free wine was definitely a plus. That was back in '98 though. Last time I was there it was definitely gone. Bummer mad mad mad mad
