Mini Labor Day Trip

Joe and I made a quick Labor Day visit to meet up with family. Below are some pics from the Magic Kingdom.

Crowds were pretty light. We got there around 9:30 and went over to HM and were ready to do iaswaa when we noted that Peter Pan standby was 20 minutes. Since we hadn't done that in a few visits we went that way. I do like that queu alot.

Rivers of America has been drained for refurbishment work - it was neat to see the boat track.

As we walked by the TomorrowLand Speedway there was hardly anybody there and standby was 10 minutes.

Outside the Space Mountain entrance We came across a CM making a water mop Donald on the pavement. we've seen Mickey and Minnie but never a Donald. That was cool!

At the Pirates queue right as you tell the CM how many in your party, the CM stopped me and in a great pirate voice said "Hold it right there, Mister Strauss!! Arrr!"

It took Joe to explain to me that he was referring to my Levi Strauss t shirt. I laughed once I realized it. On the boat.

Favorite overheard conversation/comment: outside Cosmic Rays, a couple looking at a Mk map... "I don't see Mr. Toads anywhere on this map!". rolling

Done with trying to upload pictures. Oiy!

On Monday, we left MK around 1 pm after doing our 7DMT FP " and just in time. By the time we got on the monorail it was POURING! Only lasted until we got to our car at the TCC.

We took a short break and then headed over to EPCOT around 4 pm. We were going to decide our plans once we got inside " if it was busy due to the F&W fest we would head over to AK. And it was busy! We had grabbed a FP for Soarin' on the way over so we did that real quick and then worked our way over to the Festival Center to get our AP Chef Mickey magnets. People had been posting of ridiculous lines going out the door of the festival center, but when we got there there were maybe 5 people ahead of us. They scanned our MagicBands and we got our magnets in 5 minutes or less from entering the building.

Interesting to note that at the door to where they pass out the magnets and cutting boards, they ask you if this is your 1st visit or your 4th visit (1st visit gets the magnet, 4th gets the cutting board), and direct you accordingly.

I think the boards are kinda neat. We managed to get 2 of the 4 required park visits scanned in so we just need 2 more to get the board. I've seen on the AP boards that some people have gotten Mickey and/or Minnie to sign theirs. I think that's a cool idea.

There are some fun chocolate exhibits inside the Festival Center (and free Ghirardelli squares!) " they had a Slinky Dog display, a Tiki/Polynesian display, and a few others.

We hit up Mouse Gears and picked up a few gifts and AP pins and decided to ditch the family and head to Animal Kingdom. I didn't care for the crowds of the Food & Wine Fest.

AK was not all that busy when we got there around 6:30 pm. We were not able to get FPs for FoP so we decided to hit up Everest " 10 minute wait.

We decided to do dinner at Anandapur Local Cafe. I got the Kobe Beef Burger and Fries, and Joe got the Ginger Chicken Salad. The burger was absolutely nothing like the one you get at the Yak & Yeti. I don't know why I expected it, but I was expecting a smaller version of the table service burger. It was not. Maybe it was the bun (it was yellow-ish so I'm not sure what it was made of). It was blah and I did not enjoy it. The French fries were great though! Not the shoestring kind you get at Y&Y " more thick cut. And really hot and fresh-tasting. I could live on those.

Joe's salad was underwhelming. Tiny portion of chicken and decent salad. I think next time we would go to Flame Tree. The Mini Mango Pie I got was not nearly as good as the last 2 times I got it. Very gummy. All in all I'd give it a 3 out of 10.

By the time we were done it was 8 pm, and the stand by for FoP was listed at 60 minutes. We didn't have anything else planned, and since we'd yet to see the FoP queue (we've only done FPs so far) we decided to get in line and enjoy the artistic work inside the queue. Glad we did " it was really interesting and amazing! The line ended up being closer to 45 minutes and it went pretty quickly. We really enjoyed the visuals inside. I'd never wait 2 or 3 hours though. Ever. We got out of the ride right at 9, as the park was closing. So we headed home.

My phone tracker has us at 25,958 steps for 10.5 miles on Monday Happy Labor Day! Haha.

One note: we tried to go to the Contemporary Tuesday morning (around 11 am) just to grab coffee at Joffrey's before heading home. We've done it several times in the past " go in, get coffee to go, and leave. Boy, did the security guard give us a hard time. Didn't want to let us in at all without a reservation, period. We had our Magic Bands, our AP cards, IDs...... Joe kept telling the guard we were just going to the drop-off area to get coffee and coming right back out to leave. Nope. He said there was a convention and no outside parking. And again, we weren't parking....finally another guard in the security booth said we could go but had to leave right away.

I didn't think we were doing anything overtly wrong or trying to pull anything, we just wanted frozen cappuccinos for the road and that was the most convenient place to get without going to a park or DS. I think we'll just skip it next time and go to Starbucks. Not worth the hassle.

Ugh! That doesn't sound like it was a great experience at all. I'm glad I struck this off my list in October in favor of going to the inside Yak & Yeti

Hi Kristen -

I've been having a horrible time with pics again. I got one to take but for the most.part, once I select a picture the site either hangs forever trying to uplolad, or it posts text only (as in the picture name, like xxxxxxxx.jpg, but not the picture). A few times I've gotten a link box error message.

Same way I've been doing it. I tried both the iPad and my phone, both were the same thing. If I can recreate I'll PM you a snapshot of what I am seeing.

Thanks for asking!!
