MK Taping for the Christmas Parade: Go or No?

We were thinking of a long Disney weekend in December, but just found out that the Christmas Parade taping is the same weekend (Dec 4-6). I don't think we have any desire to be involved with the parade, but is it too big a headache to be in MK the same weekend? Anyone been there at the same time?

We were there during some filming and honestly, I didn't think it was a big deal. I expected it to be more more intrusive. One thing that we were amused by was that apparently they added fake Christmas gifts as decorations above the Confectionary. They weren't there when we arrived earlier in the week. They showed up part way through our visit and disappeared after the taping. Not sure why they didn't just leave them up. They looked cute.

During the days where they are taping, the rest of MK isn't busy since mostly everyone was either in front of the stage for the performances or waiting along Main Street for the parade. Most folks don't stay all day. My friend and I did the film taping in 2013, most folks had left by the time the actual parade started. It took them like 2-3 hours to film Neil Patrick Harris's opening scene.

Oh no! Sunday the 6th was supposed to be our first Magic Kingdom day! For those of you that have been, how insane is Main Street during a taping day? I was going to schedule my daughter's first haircut at the Main Street barber that day and, since it's her first trip to Disney, we kind of have to make that walk down Main Street towards the castle. Will that even be possible with the crowds and parade?

Main Street is open part of the day, don't know exact times off hand. The Barber Shop would not be roped off. I thought it was interesting to check out from the train station... it's going very slowly, because they don't run the full show, so you may get bored.

I just read on several different Disney sites, and it's all over Facebook, that the MK taping dates for the parade this year are going to be Nov 10-13. I don't know if Disney has officially announced yet so of course this is rumor until it is confirmed by Disney.

Would they do the taping on the same day as MVMCP is scheduled? We have tickets for the 12th and weren't planning on going in until 3ish anyway so it probably won't effect us. I haven't taken much notice of the Christmas parade etc as we don't get it in the UK so don't really know anything about it. Do they normally have celebs doing stuff? It would have to be someone really special for me to get excited about and change my plans. Anyone know when Disney make their official announcement?

Hope it doesn't clash with your day Allie, you must post photos of it!

They generally start around like 8 am for taping then go into the early afternoon. In 2013, it took like 3 hours to film NPH's song and dance down Main Street. Then it only took like 30 minutes for the parade to go down the route. We had to listen to a boy band sing the same song for like an hour. It was exhausting but fun. I did manage to get on tv for a split second during the parade. They should be ending the taping stuff by like 3 pm.
