To Monorail or Not To Monorail?

Do you love staying at the monorail resorts? If so, what makes them so great for you?
I'm looking for all the reasons Disney's monorail resorts are worth the money!

I've stayed at two monorail resorts. One night at BLT with JMed Labor Day weekend, we didn't even use it. We spent the day at MK and walked over. The second time was for my birthday in January at VGF. It was nice when we went to MK and Epcot. I don't mind the buses and totally ok with staying at value resorts. I would only stay there for special occasions. For me, the monorail isn't enough to spend the extra money on.

We 've only stayed at one monorail resort -BLT. And it was easier and faster to walk to MK. I don't think there's much value in the monorail for us - cramped and full of germy people. And it always seems to take forever to get anywhere..I wish they would upgrade the cars. When we stayed at resorts it was always based on theming and cost and the monorail was never a factor for us.

Um. I don't think I helped with your request gaah rolling

Okay, our answer is not going to help you much either. We almost always stay at a "monorail" resort. However, we almost never use the monorail. We either walk from Bay Lake or use the small boats when at the Poly. I will ride on the monorail but prefer not to.

Similar to scrappy's comment, we love to stay at The Poly for the location, but prefer taking the ferry or small boat to MK. We can also walk to the TTC to get the Epcot monorail. That monorail we take more often.

My first DVC home Resort was BLT. Although we had taken the DVC tour back in the 90s we didn't take the plunge until 2011. The Contemporary was always our favorite luxury resort so it was just a given that BLT would be "the one." Previous to buying DVC we stayed at the All Star Resorts then graduated to Pop Century. Unfortunately I have turned my husband into a resort snob and he refuses to stay at either one any more! eek Over the years addonitis hit me big time and I now own at Beach Club (an EPCOT Resort) AKL/Kidani, because it is beautiful and Vero Beach (just to have extra points). If I had an opportunity to add more points it would probably be at Kidani. Absolutely no interest in Riviera!

Because of limited availability at Polynesian and Grand Floridian, BLT is my usual monorail "go to" Resort. That being said, I would never pay cash. Too rich for my blood! laugh

I tend to shy away from Disney Transport as a general rule. Too crowded, hot, and time consuming. We always drive, even when we stayed at the Contemp. Walked to MK and drove to Epcot. I do eventually want to stay at the Poly and GF but the Monorail doesn't factor into that. I just want to mark all the resorts off my bucket list.

laugh WOW! Not really a single response of loving the monorail resorts for the monorails. Maybe I should change the article I was going to write to why folks shouldn't bother. laugh

Yup, they are only called the Monorail resorts because the Monorail runs through them, not because people stay there because of them. I love the Monorail resorts because of the sounds of Disney, the hustle and bustle of people going to and from the MK, watching the Monorail wiz by. I do love watching the Monorail. Heck when I live stream from a room that you can see the monorail, people love watching it, guessing when it will go by next and such. Which Monorail will be Peach, Teal, Red, Coral, Orange, Gold, Yellow, Lime, Green, Blue, Silver, or Black.

Where else can you go and see 3 resorts, two Monorails, a Ferry Boat, a water taxi, a Castle, an Electrical Water Pageant and fireworks all at the same time? Oh yeah, and hear a train while eating a Dole Whip!!!! That's my reason for staying at a Monorail Resort!. Thank you very much. Mic drop!

I love monorail resorts. Two of them anyway. I love BLT Theme park views, walking to MK, access to Contemporary and other monorail resorts. I like PVB. Beautiful views (Moorea 3rd floor Lake View is the best), Trader Sams and great transportation to MK and Epcot. VGF has very nice rooms. Other than that, I don't care for it. The Monorail itself is great when it runs well. When it doesn't its a nightmare. But it's iconic. I hope Disney gets it together and fixes them up so they are safe and reliable.

I'm DVC so I don't pay cash to stay there. Just points.

Yaaaas - Thanks for the monorail resort love guys! Personally, seeing the monorail go by out my room window makes me incredibly happy. I giggle like a little girl every single time. It just doesn't get old for me. I also love the increased ease of getting to restaurant at the other monorail resorts, it's like tripling your options without much fuss to get to the others. I forgot about the Electrical Water Pageant, that's another great bonus!

I love the monorail but the only time I've stayed at a monorail resort I rarely used it! Staying at BLT, it was more convenient to walk to the Magic Kingdom then to walk over to the main building and get on the monorail, though we did use it to get to Epcot. That being said, if I were staying in the Contemporary main tower, the Polynesian, or the Grand Floridian, we probably utilize it a lot more. And I do like how much more connected those three resort are with each other.

Kristen agree the monorail adds a very good aspect to the environment of the resorts but the usefulness is limited. Not a reason to stay at the resort in my mind. We use the monorail for transportation from epcot to MK or visa versa.
