Our Small Town... Or It's a small world after all

I live in a very small town in North West England with one established dance school and one excellent drama school. I attended both as a child and now run my own drama and dance school.

Eleanor, the young Aurora in the new Maleficent film went to the dance school that I trained at as a child (and her grandmother was our neighbour). Emma, the girl who plays the red queen in Once upon a time in Wonderland was in the agency connected to our local drama school (and I used to be one of her chaperones on Hollyoaks when she was 15!)

One of my pupils was in Game of Thrones!

I was an extra in the 51st state and chaperoned my pupils in Across the Universe! *

Does anyone else live in a small town where your talent has hit Hollywood?

It's a Small a World After All!

* Julie Taymor (of Lion King fame) asked me to empty a bin - how is that for a claim to fame!

We had a kid who was a year behind me in high school get drafter by a major league baseball team as a pitcher. He washed out though. Johnny Weissmuller (Tarzan in the 1930's) claimed to have been born in the town that Benn's family is from, but source substantiate that he was almost certainly born somewhere in present day Romania. That's all that I can think of. We live in a small town and there's not a lot that's terribly exciting going on around here!

I came from my town....it's pretty small....like 8 blocks by 5 blocks with some trailers near the lake close by. We have four churches and two taverns and one small cafe for breakfast and simple lunch. Not much except really nice people.

The house we live in (our church parsonage- we are remodeling it for them) was built in 1905 and the church we belong to is celebrating 150 yrs in town next month!

Not too many famous people from my hometown, at least not acting wise.

I know Bryan Singer, director of Superman Returns and X-Men went and graduated from my high school, way earlier before me and my eldest sister. Christopher McQuarrie also attended and graduated from my high school, as well. That's about it. Ethan Hawke attended my high school but he transferred to a private school.

This is fun! How cool to read...

Well...Tommy Shaw (Styx and Damn Yankees) had his farm in our town (has since sold it)...

Mahamad Ali (boxer) has a house 15 minutes from us and his kids graduated from our high school....
And the previous owner to his house was Al Capone. There were escape tunnels down to
The St. Joseph River.

The lead singer of the Smashing Pumpkins owns a house in our neighboring city near Watervliet...

Ring Lardner (political satirist back in the day) had a house in our town.

A fellow cop pulled over Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and another country star who were all together speeding down I 94.
They were heading to a town about an hour from us in Laporte Indiana where Oprah was selling her house.
Guess they were thinking about buying it, but they didnt.

We have had several movie shots done in Niles and neighboring cities...probably the most known was
Only The Lonely (John Candy)(used our train depot) ... Prancer (filmed all around our area) ....
and the old black and white film The Great Train Robbery partially filmed at Bear Cave Resort ....

LOL I guess I didn't know the "Man in Black" sang while standing on his head!
I see you still have all that flowing mane!

I was a year behind in high school with SF quarterback Joe Montana. He graduated in 1974 from Ringgold High School - Monongahela Campus and I graduated in 1975.

I actually know several people who graduated from Ringgold, but no one famous. A good friend in college lived in Eighty Four, PA and went to Ringgold Then a friend that I met when we lived in St. Louis graduated from there! See, it IS a Small World!
Sorry, just regular people. Wasn't there someone else famous that graduated from Ringgold?

OH wait, Sharon Stone went to the college I went to (she's older than me) and studied drama. - Edinboro University of PA. She's from a small town between Erie and Pittsburgh.

The mother of Poison lead singer Bret Michaels used to live across the street from me. He never lived there himself, but he would visit late at night after a concert when he was touring. I never so much as laid eyes on him, though. And frankly, I wouldn't have recognized him or known who he was even if I had seen him, since that band was a bit after my time. His mom had all sorts of gold and platinum records all over her walls, but they meant nothing to me. I didn't have a clue until someone explained to me.
