Photographerless PhotoPass+ At Character Meet and Greets

Here's Why Everyone's So Mad About Disney World's Automated Photopass Camera Boxes.

Disney Food Blog posted an article the other day about the new Automated Photopass Camera Boxes at Character Meet and Greets. As a camera hound myself, it really does make me cranky to think of the shots that are going to be lost because there isn't a human behind the lens. A robot doesn't understand what is going on in the room, and capturing context i s a huge part of taking a great picture. At $165 dollars a crack for Memory Maker, I want an actual person taking my pictures. But maybe that's just me? How do you feel about the change?

Photopass photographers aren't out of a job but they are down to not so many indoor positions. I get why Disney would be interested in how this works but with as many complaints as they have gotten, I would think that they would stop with the boxes. I haven't experienced the boxes so I can't really speak to them.

People have been complaining and more keep popping up.

We didn't encounter any on our trip to June and I really hope they reform this before our January trip. I really really hate this change.

It's going to be all about numbers this one. If enough return visitors don't buy Memory Maker and surveys say that it is because of the boxes they will remove them. However, if there is a gain from the boxes vs. having a staffed position, the boxes will stay. I really think it's going to take more than a quarter or two to figure this one out.

This is a picture we got while visiting Tinkerbell without a shutterfly.

Not too shabby for your basic photo. The loss though comes in those captures of special candid moments.

I heard recently (I wish I could remember where) that the photographers are back at most of these test locations. Can anyone confirm that?
